General Summary:
The Financial Administrative Coordinator is responsible for various Department finance functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, and asset inventory using generally accepted accounting principles; establishes and maintains records of financial transactions including account reconciliations and financial data analysis; and coordinating Department payroll activities including submitting payroll information into the county financial and human resources computer system.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Reviews, analyzes, and reconciles Department accounting transactions as needed with a high level of accuracy; creates and maintains various Department financial spreadsheets
Performs a variety of clerical and technical duties to support the procurement of goods and services essential to daily operations by collaborating with internal divisions and Harris County Purchasing to prepare and coordinate vendor quotes and purchase orders, maintain purchasing records and logs, and process invoices and purchasing card transactions
Inputs information into the county's financial computer system and ensures the Department meets all county-established deadlines and timelines
Inputs / updates payroll information into the county financial and human resources computer system as needed
Provides additional assistance to the Department's Budget and Finance Division as needed

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
Experience:
At least 3 years' financial administrative experience in an office setting
Certifications / Licensures:
Maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and maintain ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Professional demeanor in dealing with a diverse set of outside callers and coworkers; desire to make customer service a priority
Appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity when dealing with payroll information
Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to multi-task and adjust priorities as needed
Attention to detail and ability to anticipate needs of others
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with advanced knowledge of Excel

Potential Exposures:
The Institute of Forensic Sciences provides medical examiner and crime laboratory services for Harris County. The work performed is sensitive and serious and routinely deals with criminal evidence and deaths of adults and children that resulted from violence, natural disease, or other causes. While this position won't have any direct contact with evidence or decedents, there will be exposure which may be emotionally taxing
Physical Demands:
Requires physical strength to lift up to 30 pounds in the routine performance of duties
Must be physically able to sit or stand for extended periods
