Summary:
The Manager of Finance oversees the Financial Reporting department and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the credit union's financial data and reporting. This role is responsible for managing financial statements, regulatory filings, budget preparation, and analysis to support sound financial decision-making across the organization. The Manager of Finance provides leadership to the financial reporting team, ensuring adherence to GAAP, regulatory compliance, and efficient accounting processes. Success in this position requires strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to achieve organizational financial goals.
Standard Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, schedule. Events of activities may occasionally require early mornings, late evenings and Saturday availability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Oversee the preparation of monthly financial management reports, including financial statements, allowance estimates, and other required schedules.
Analyze monthly financial performance against budget and historical trends, providing variance explanations and actionable insights to senior management.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data in the general ledger and other accounting systems.
Maintain the integrity of the financial reporting process through effective internal controls and quality assurance procedures.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in the preparation and coordination of the annual budget, including revenue, expense, and capital expenditure plans.
Support financial forecasting and long-term planning efforts in collaboration with department leaders and senior finance management.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
Ensure timely and accurate completion of regulatory filings, including the NCUA Call Report and annual personal property returns.
Maintain compliance with GAAP standards and FAS ASC 326 (CECL) guidance for allowance calculations and financial reporting.
Support auditors and examiners by preparing documentation and assisting with audit reviews and regulatory examinations.
Accounting Operations
Maintain the general ledger, including security controls, year-end close processes, and system integrity.
Oversee the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including projects in progress and other balance sheet items.
Supervise the fixed assets journal and ensure periodic inventories are completed in accordance with credit union policies.
Establish and maintain accounting processes for new products, services, and business initiatives to ensure accurate financial tracking.
Policy & Process Management
Assist in formulating, implementing, and updating accounting procedures to ensure the safety and security of financial data and records.
Continuously evaluate opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance departmental efficiency.
Ensure financial records and transactions are maintained in compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
Recruit, train, and develop financial reporting staff to ensure departmental effectiveness and professional growth.
Supervise day-to-day performance, provide coaching, and conduct evaluations to maintain a high-performing team.
Foster a collaborative environment focused on accountability, quality, and service excellence.
Communicate department and organizational goals, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.
Other Responsibilities
Assist with special projects, financial analysis, and reporting requests as assigned by line supervision.
Support cross-functional initiatives that enhance financial transparency and operational success.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees within the Financial Reporting department, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and professional development.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Ten (10) or more years of related experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within a credit union or financial institution.
Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, analysis, and regulatory compliance.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
Proficiency in general ledger systems, financial reporting software, and Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills preferred).
Experience preparing regulatory filings such as NCUA Call Reports.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and data.
Leadership Skills
Proven ability to lead and develop teams with a focus on collaboration and results.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
