Sherman Industries is seeking a Field Service Robot Maintenance Technician to perform industrial robot preventative maintenance (PM) at our customers' facilities and support in-house repair operations. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and completing scheduled robot PMs, ensuring all required parts, materials, tools, and documentation are prepared ahead of each job. You will travel to customer sites to perform detailed mechanical and electrical inspections, re-greasing, battery changes, backup tasks, and general health assessments on a wide range of industrial robots.
When not performing field PM work, you will assist in our shop with robot refurbishment projects and repair work. This includes disassembling and rebuilding industrial robots, troubleshooting components, cleaning and restoring assemblies, and supporting electronic repairs for robot controllers, CNC equipment, drives, servomotors, and automation hardware.
Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on industrial robots at customer facilities, including inspection, re-greasing, battery replacement, backups, and overall robot health assessments
Plan and manage PM jobs by preparing parts, consumables, tools, and required documentation ahead of scheduled work
Coordinate with customers to confirm PM schedules, site requirements, and machine availability
Maintain accurate PM reports, checklists, and service documentation for each job performed
Identify worn components or potential issues during PMs and communicate recommended corrective actions to customers and internal staff
Travel to customer facilities to perform on-site service work in a safe, professional manner
Assist in the shop with robot refurbishment projects, including disassembly, cleaning, inspection, rebuild, and testing
Support electronic repair activities, including troubleshooting robot controllers, drives, power supplies, circuit boards, CNC electronics, and automation components
Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both in the field and in the shop
Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with customer and industry standards
Assist with inventory management for PM parts, lubricants, tools, and repair components
Collaborate with the team to improve PM processes, service quality, and workflow efficiency
Required Skills
Hands-on mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
Experience with industrial maintenance, robotics, or automation equipment
Ability to read service documentation
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
Ability to manage PM schedules, materials, and job planning
Comfortable working in customer-facing environments with professionalism
Basic understanding of robot systems (ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa, KUKA, etc.) or willingness to learn
Ability to safely use tools for mechanical, electrical, and electronic work
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer locations
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
Prior experience performing robot PMs or servicing industrial robots
Experience with CNC machines, servo systems, drives, and industrial electronics repair
Familiarity with greasing procedures, brake checks, and mechanical alignment work
Ability to perform backups and handle controller software for major robot brands
Soldering, wiring, and PCB-level diagnostic skills
Strong documentation and organizational habits

Pay: $18.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 - 60 per week
