Hiring Range: The base/starting wage for this position is $15.30 per hour, which increases based on years of service/experience.

Work Schedule: Varies (weekdays, weekends, evenings)

NATURE OF WORK

As a member of Parks, Recreation, and Culture, individuals in this seasonal position perform routine maintenance work, which involves a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks and manual labor in support of the maintenance of athletic fields, parks, rights-of-way, open space properties, facilities, and other town sites. Seasonal operations are performed mainly outdoors and/or at municipal buildings, parks, or other town sites or properties.

Most positions work Monday through Friday, which may also require weekend and evening hours on a regular or occasional basis. This temporary employment may be scheduled through the year on a full-time basis depending on the needs of the town, but will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first).

Please note that town employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one classification at any one given time.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Individuals work under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.

No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised.

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Individuals in the Field Maintenance Technician role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by the town, and under laws, regulation, and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

  • Performs general athletic field maintenance including game preparation and field painting/chalking.
  • Performs grounds maintenance, which may include mowing, edging, trimming, planting, and/or weeding.
  • Performs turf maintenance including repairing damaged sod.
  • Assists in the maintenance of irrigation systems including troubleshooting and repairing minor construction.
  • Conducts building maintenance, which may include repairs using various hand and power tools or equipment.
  • Performs regular maintenance on equipment such as benches, picnic tables, and shelter repair.
  • Performs regular custodial work, which may include sweeping, mopping, painting, cleaning, and picking up waste and debris, at ballparks, park locations, and park restrooms.
  • Performs collection/disposal of yard waste materials while safely operating town vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs regular safety inspections and maintains accurate records/reports.
  • Notifies the supervisor of all safety hazards and issues promptly.
  • Complies with the town and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES
Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:
  • The Field Maintenance Technician position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check.
  • Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc.
  • Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town.
  • Assists other town departments/divisions, as necessary.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND FORMAL TRAINING
  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Six (6) months of previous experience in a related field
  • Previous knowledge of athletics desired
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
  • Must have a current Colorado Driver\'s License or the ability to obtain one upon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor\'s standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to communicate professionally, clearly, and effectively with people inside and outside the organization using verbal and written methods.
  • Ability to perform the necessary functions of the position and to make appropriate decisions consistent with the job expectations and position description.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary for the position, including hand and power tools, motor vehicles, and light trucks, and have the necessary skills to represent the town competently and professionally.

MATERIALS and EQUIPMENT USED
Materials and equipment used include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Equipment: Position requires the use of a variety of equipment: computers, tablets or other digital equipment, digital cameras, copiers, printers, scanners, telephones, hand and power tools, town-owned vehicles, and mowing equipment.
  • Materials: Position requires the use of a variety of materials: including gasoline and chemicals associated with ball field maintenance.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The physical activities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, sitting, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
The physical requirements of this position are considered Medium Work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
The employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm\'s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.; operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned to make general observations of facilities or structures.
The employee may be subject to the following environmental conditions: inside, such as an office setting; outside, with little to no effective protection from weather; extreme cold, typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour; extreme heat, temperatures typically above 100 degrees of periods of more than one hour; subject to noise and vibration.
The employee is subject to hazards, including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, and exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system or the skin and is subject to oils.
The nature of this job would be particularly dangerous if performed under the influence of drugs or alcohol, therefore, this position is considered safety sensitive.
