Control Union is currently looking for support for our New Orleans (Louisiana) port. The position is a full time position and non-exempt.

Main tasks of the Field Inspector (essential job tasks)

  • Execution of vessel/barge draft surveys
  • Execution of cargo surveys
  • Superintending Liquid cargoes
  • Superintending Bulk, Breakbulk and Containerized cargoes
  • Sampling and Sample preparation of Bulk Cargoes
  • Conduct field testing
  • Perform sample dispatch
Description of the Responsibilities of the Field Inspector
  • Liaison with personnel of CU offices/subcontractor / vessel agents / terminals for execution of orders
  • Execution of vessel/barge draft surveys
  • Execution of cargo surveys
  • Superintending bulk cargoes
  • Sampling and Sample preparation of Bulk Cargoes
  • Conduct field testing
  • Perform sample dispatch
  • Advise Port Manager, office staff, and clients of the progress of the job
  • Handling and recording of samples
  • Check and verify documentation received from Control Union offices/subcontractors for accuracy
  • Issue field reports and daily updates
  • Email/fax/mail/courier to client or lab necessary documentation/samples
  • Assist Operations Manager or Technical Manager or General Manager in any miscellaneous duties
Competency the Field Inspector should have
  • Proficient in MSWord, MSOffice Excel, scanning, email functions
  • Working knowledge of shipboard terminology
  • Proficient in math
  • Good communication skills
Level of training the Field Inspector should come with
  • Minimum - High school diploma
  • Preferred - Marine background
  • On the job training to be initiated by CU Group Training Specialist or competent surveyor
Requirements for the Field Inspector
  • Must have a reliable transportation
  • Proof of US citizenship or Applicable Working Visa
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and drug testing
  • Must be able to receive and maintain a TWIC card
  • TWIC card preferred, candidate can apply at time of hire
  • Able to work independently
  • Must be able to lift approximately 50lbs
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed
  • Must be able to climb and work at heights above 6 feet
  • Must be able to work on holidays/weekends
  • Must be willing travel domestically and abroad
