The Federal Work Study - Office Assistant (Student Activities) plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Center for Student Life (The Gecko Hideout) and helping to create a welcoming and engaging campus environment. This position provides customer service to students and visitors, assists with campus programming and events, and helps maintain the appearance and functionality of the Student Life space.

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements.

FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include the following:
Greet students and campus visitors
Provide information, resources, and friendly customer service
Escort visitors and provide directions to campus locations as needed
Assist with the planning and implementation of Student Life events
Print posters and place sidewalk signs around campus
Schedule campus visits
Maintain and update Student Life's bulletin boards
Promote and support a welcoming and respectful environment within the Center for Student Life
Encourage positive student behavior and enforce center policies, including no food/drink near furniture and game areas
Clean, organize, and maintain supply cabinets
Operate and maintain the popcorn machine for events and programs
Perform general cleaning and organization of the Student Life
Minimum Qualifications
--------------------------
Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours or more at GateWay, have unmet financial need, and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
Desired Qualifications
--------------------------
Computer competence and skills required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the capacity and enthusiasm to learn school-specific data systems like SIS, HCM, and appointment calendars
Strong communication skills
Conflict resolution skills when working with students, staff, faculty, and the public
Answering phones and multitasking in a busy office environment
Adhere to strict student/faculty confidentiality
Special Working Conditions

Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
May require numerous evenings or weekends
May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
