Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. What You Will Do:

You will assist students interested in or enrolled in noncredit workforce training by providing personalized career and educational planning, helping with program admissions, financial aid, and credential completion. You will identify work-based learning opportunities, support job placement and retention efforts, and connect students to regional supportive services, including one-stop career centers. Your support will extend before, during, and after training to ensure students thrive in their career pathways.

Work Location: Mountain Gateway Community College Wilson Center, Buena Vista, VA

Schedule: Flexible Hours, 12 PM - 6 PM - Monday through Thursday

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

Basic knowledge and experience in career assessment, action plan development, job search, resume writing, interview skills, and soft skills training Ability to communicate effectively and build networks with workforce partners and employers Familiarity with workforce development programs (e.g., WIOA, RVHI) and labor market information Knowledge of student resources such as financial aid and supportive services Strong listening, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, especially working with underserved populations
Experience with data systems, operations, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms
