This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Part-time employees are eligible for 25% NWCCD tuition discount for the employee during the semester teaching.

Job Summary


Job Summary:



Farrier Assistant will assist Farrier Instructor with forging exercises, safety oversight with horses and equipment, equipment and tool maintenance, scheduling horses and clients, and scoring of shoeing and practical hands-on exercises.

Education/Qualifications


Possess the American Farriers Association (AFA) Certified Journeyman Farrier certificate, or actively pursuing certification. Valid Driver's License


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


Knowledge:Basic understanding of horse anatomy, forging and horse shoeing Knowledge of farrier equipment and tools and how to maintain them Must be able to assess safety concerns and quickly correct them

Abilities and Skills:Must be proficient at forging, shoeing and tool maintenance Must be comfortable around horses and have horsemanship skills Must be comfortable working with students at all different levels


Working Conditions/Physical Requirements


Successful applicant will be working outdoors in inclement weather, in a hot environment around forges and in uncomfortable positions under horses. Horses can be unpredictable and sometimes hazardous to be around.

Heavy lifting is required.
