General Statement

The Farmers Market Assistant PT, under general supervision, coordinates and facilitates the Farmers Market weekly on Saturday. Works on-site providing customer service to patrons and vendors. Processes and records SNAP and EBT transactions and vendor rental fees. Promotes the Farmer's Market through public interaction and various media platforms.

Essential Functions

Coordinates and facilitates the Saturday Farmers Market each week.

Emails vendors about weekly participation, assigns vendor space, and sends layout to vendors.

Focuses on market curation and the shoppers experience by coordinating extra-curricular activities to take place at the market during the market day to include food trucks, kid and family friendly activities, cooking demos, etc.

Works on-site person during market business hours overseeing the market and answering vendor questions.

Provides in-person customer service, answers vendor and customer questions related to the market and directs unknown questions to the Local Foods Manager. Processes SNAP and EBT transactions.

Answers general questions regarding the use of EBT/SNAP Cards and WIC vouchers at the Farmers Market and directs unknown questions to the Local Foods Manager.

Keeps organized and accurate records of EBT/SNAP transactions for county finance and closes the terminal batch at the end of each business day.

Assists and verifies each SNAP voucher transaction with farmers, ensuring they are in date and used properly.

Collects weekly and/or annual rental fees from vendors.

Builds and maintains positive relationships with vendors and customers.

Assists with maintaining a clean and inviting market to vendors and customers.

Leads and works in a team environment, communicating ideas, identifying problems, providing feedback and offering creative solutions.

Enforces market rules and regulations to vendors as well as patrons on the premises.

Organizes annual enrollment of weekly and annual vendors.

Collaborates with the Food Hub Coordinator to organize and conduct seasonal farm inspections.

Performs Food Hub operations as necessary. This includes, but is not limited to, product aggregation, packing retail and wholesale orders, and assisting with deliveries.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:


High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED), and no required experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:


Must have a valid driver's license and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy.

Special Requirements:


Must be able to work Saturdays (April-Dec) at the Farmer's Market. Weekday schedule is flexible and remote, some in office hours may be required as needed.

Must be able to assist with Food Hub operations on Thursdays.

Must possess basic computer skills. It is required that applicants have digital marketing via social media experience, and have digital design skills, including but not limited to Canva program experience.

Must be self-motivated and have strong communication, customer service, and conflict resolution skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, printers, telephones, pagers, cash registers, book chargers, copiers, answering machines, fax machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


Work is performed mainly outdoors in a dynamic environment that requires the need to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
