Job Description

This is a great opportunity for someone reliable and hard working to help rebuild Owl Hollow Farm, a 120-acre premier breeding facility that includes thoroughbred racehorses with high genetic quality bloodlines. The Farm Manager will be involved in tending to thoroughbred horses, registered highland cows, registered Kiko goats and Katahdin sheep, livestock guardian dogs, administering medications, maintaining the pastures, paddocks, pond, manor house and grounds, repairing and maintaining farm buildings, roads, fences, landscaping, and maintaining machinery. An on-site farm dwelling might be provided to qualified candidates depending on experience and qualifications. This position will advise the owner on the breeding, training, purchase of stock, feed, and equipment, implementing efficient operations, and perform value-accruing repairs or remodeling. The Farm Manager will help develop a business plan for a sustainable and productive farm operation.

Key Responsibilities:



- Daily care and husbandry of livestock including horses, cattle, chickens, rabbits, pigs, peacocks, dogs:

o Purchase animal stock and food/supplements, hay, silage; general daily cleaning, sweep, cobweb, dust. Maintain the farm vehicles in good working condition.

o Keep the animals fed, watered, healthy, clean, and well groomed.

o Herd cattle in the pastures.

o Exercise horses in paddocks, manage turnout and maintain them on a timely schedule; groom and prep horses for daily conditioning; halter breaking foals and breaking young horses; keep track of deworming, farrier and vaccinations

o Store quality straw and hay for horses and cows

o Perform animal breeding and husbandry procedures.

- Maintenance and upkeep of horse barn, coop and other animal holding structures and farm buildings:

o General maintenance, painting, cleaning, upkeep and remodeling of animal facilities.

o Ordering supplies as needed.

- Maintenance and upkeep of pastures, paddocks, and pond:

o Seasonal activities including mowing and weeding (slashing and/or spraying), and snow plowing.

o Make sure the spring-fed pond is clean.

- Handyman skills:

o Maintain and repair farm buildings, fences, machinery, and other equipment.

o Ability to operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery and self-propelled machinery for plowing, fertilizing, spraying, etc.

- Personal requirements:

o Be invested in the farm lifestyle.

o Self-starter possessing great multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.

o Ability to undertake heavy manual labor in compliance with Farm policies.

o Ability to work long hours and in all kinds of weather conditions.

o Mechanical aptitude and ability to repair farm equipment.

o Must demonstrate high standards of professionalism.

o Act in accordance with company's policies and in alignment with the company's culture.
