Duties



Manage the entire billing cycle for family practice services, including submission of claims to insurance companies using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD (International Classification of Diseases) codes (ICD-9 and ICD-10), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications. Review medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with coding standards, including ICD coding updates and medical terminology. Process payments, follow up on unpaid claims, and perform collections on overdue accounts through phone calls, letters, or electronic communication. Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility prior to billing to optimize reimbursement rates. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures when necessary for proper coding. Resolve billing discrepancies by investigating claim denials or rejections, appealing when appropriate, and ensuring timely resolution of outstanding balances. Stay current with changes in medical billing regulations, coding updates, and payer policies to ensure compliance and maximize revenue capture. Generate reports on billing activities, collection status, and outstanding accounts for management review. Uphold confidentiality standards by managing sensitive medical records with integrity and adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Experience



Proven experience in medical billing within a family practice or outpatient clinic setting is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT codes, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, DRG classifications, and ICD coding standards. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and documentation practices essential for accurate billing. Experience working with EMR/EHR systems that support billing functions is required; proficiency in popular platforms is a plus. Demonstrated ability to perform collections effectively while maintaining positive patient relationships. Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail to ensure error-free claims processing and follow up. Ability to interpret insurance policies and payer requirements confidently.
