Mount Behavioral Health is a mission-driven mental health organization committed to providing person-centered, culturally responsive care. As we expand our Peer Services Team, we are seeking a dedicated
Family Peer Advocate (FPA)
to support caregivers of children with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges.
Position Summary
The Family Peer Advocate will draw on their own lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child with social, emotional, developmental, health, or behavioral needs. The FPA provides guidance, emotional support, and system navigation to families facing similar challenges. Services are delivered in community settings based on client's location.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one peer support to parents and caregivers
Use lived experience to build trust, empower families, and promote self-advocacy
Assist families in navigating mental health, educational, and service systems
Support caregivers in understanding their child's diagnosis, treatment, and rights
Help families develop coping strategies, set achievable goals, and access resources
Serve as the caregiver voice during team meetings
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with OMH and agency standards
Required Qualifications
Lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child with behavioral, emotional, developmental, or mental health needs
Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity
Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and manage time effectively
Reliable internet access and ability to travel within the community as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting families within mental health, special education, or child welfare systems
Familiarity with Medicaid documentation and OMH guidelines
