Responsibilities:
Elwyn seeks an ACCS Family Partner for a peer-support role within the Adult Community Clinical Services (ACCS) team. They provide support, advocacy, and education to family members or caregivers of individuals receiving ACCS services. The Family Partner uses lived experience (as a parent, guardian, or caregiver) to connect with families, promote recovery, and improve collaboration between providers, clients, and their support systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Advocacy & Support
Provide hope, information, and encouragement to individuals and family members in ACCS
Coach families to develop their advocacy and collaboration skills and help them understand their rights
Serve as a liaison between families and the ACCS clinical team, and community providers and supports
Peer Consultation / Team Input
Offer expertise and consultation to the ACCS team based on personal/family experience with mental health
systems: experiences with treatment, medications, recovery, etc. Help team members understand the family/caregiver perspective, including stigma, discrimination, and
cultural issues. Promote a team culture that respects family input, supports decision-making, and values self-determination.
Stigma Reduction & Empowerment
Assist families and clients in identifying, understanding, and coping with stigma associated with mental
illness. Encourage involvement in peer-run or self-help programs and make connections to advocacy organizations
Community / Social Engagement
Organize and facilitate group or social activities for clients and families (e.g., peer support groups, family events).
Help individuals structure their time, build social networks, and practice social or life skills in community-
based settings. System Navigation & Education
Educate families on navigating behavioral health systems, insurance, and other support services.
Provide regular feedback on how the mental health system is working (or not) for families, to inform
program improvement.
EDUCATION &
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required; additional certification (Peer Specialist, etc.) is preferred and required
within one year of employment. Must have experience as a family member, (parent, guardian, caregiver) of someone who has received mental
health services. Or a person in recovery that has experience and a passion for working with families. Strong listening and communication skills
Advocacy and coaching ability
Empathy and capacity to use personal experience in a professional setting
Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
Flexible, team-oriented
Bilingual / multicultural experience is often preferred
