This role offers an Elevated Leadership Role as the Facilities Manager at the Central Utah Correctional Facility (CUCF), requiring you to manage supervisory level staff and coordinate all facility maintenance and improvement aspects, including setting priorities, monitoring project progress and budgets, and resolving environmental and safety issues. You will Support UDC's Mission by directly contributing to public safety and maintaining the CUCF infrastructure to the highest standards, which is vital for providing a safe environment for staff and offenders. Furthermore, you'll Grow with the Agency as the Utah Department of Corrections actively supports professional development and teamwork, with this position providing a significant opportunity to lead and manage one or more statewide or agency-wide programs.
This Job is open to current state employees in the UDC facilities team.
Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):

  • 3 medical plan options. Choose a Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. There is an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those who have other medical insurance coverage.
  • 5 dental plan options, with an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those that have other dental insurance coverage.
  • 2 vision plan options under EyeMed
Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
  • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
  • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
  • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off:
  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
  • We have 12 paid holidays.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff, delegate assignments, monitor performance, and initiate disciplinary actions.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities, space planning, construction, and resolving environmental and safety issues.
  • Review construction contract progress payments, change orders, and monitor project substantial completion.
  • Obtain and evaluate bids/quotes for specification compliance.
  • Coordinate activities between CUCF and other agencies, suppliers, and work units.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable federal/state laws and agency rules.
  • Manage agency-wide programs, determining goals and objectives.
Qualifications
Ability to manage people (motivating, developing, and directing) and resources (time, money, equipment).
Knowledge of business and management principles (e.g., strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling).
Skill in complex problem solving, using logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.
Ability to communicate effectively in both writing and speaking to convey information clearly.
Skill in monitoring/assessing performance (self, individuals, or organizations) to improve or take corrective action.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
