Job Description

Summary
Responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and supporting the operation of dairy systems and equipment at Central Maryland Research and Education Center (CMREC). Providing hands-on maintenance and repair for systems and equipment designed for animal handling and housing, milking, manure handling, and feed storage and preparation. Provide routine inspection and maintenance of vehicles, skid steers, tractors and other equipment. Conduct routine maintenance of buildings, roads, fences, and other infrastructure at the facility. Coordinate services with Research Facilities Management Office when needed. Coordinate major work with contractors and/or vendors for support systems including HVAC, plumbing, heating, cooling, electrical, potable water, wastewater, and irrigation. This position works directly with facilities operations team and other managers at the facility.



Physical Demands:

Lift and transport agricultural supplies, tools and equipment Climb and perform extensive standing and walking. Wear and work in personal protective equipment. Work in extreme weather conditions. On-call, emergency after hours, weekends, and holidays may be required


Preferred Qualifications:



An extensive knowledge of dairy systems, electronics, and mechanics. Carpentry skills to perform routine building maintenance and repair. Familiar with operation of large equipment, including skid steer, backhoe and tractors. Ability to fabricate and modify parts using acetylene torch, arc and Mig-welder, and plasma cutter. Competent in computer usage.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.



Experience: Three (3) years of housekeeping, facilities, operations, construction, or maintenance experience. One (1) year of experience leading or supervising professional staff.



Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.Knowledge of building systems. Knowledge of building operations requirements. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
