Job Duties
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective August 2026. This appointment offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a vibrant and interdisciplinary department that encompasses drama, fine arts, and music. Responsibilities for this nine-month position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in drama, fine arts and music, maintaining an active research agenda, and collaboration with faculty across departmental disciplines. Salary is competitive. Review of applications will begin on January 20, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.
Norfolk State University is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for all students regardless of background. Candidates must include a statement that reflects their philosophy and experience working with initiatives or with students and communities from underrepresented populations.

A terminal degree (MFA, DMA, or Ph.D.) in a relevant field (Fine Arts, Music, Drama/Theatre)
Preferred Qualifications
1. Preference for candidates who have a record of interdisciplinary teaching and/or
collaboration within the areas of visual and performing arts.
2. Strong portfolio of creative work, research or scholarship.
