Position Summary:
The University of Idaho Extension, Northern District, is seeking applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track position of Assistant/Associate Professor, Extension Educator, Forestry and/or Agricultural Production located in the Clearwater County Extension Office in Orofino, Idaho. The position will provide overall leadership, applied research and organization for educational programs in forest management and agricultural production with a major emphasis on beef cattle production, grain production, forage crop production and 4-H youth development in Clearwater County. Additional emphasis in managing natural resources will prove valuable in Clearwater County and the Northern district. This position will also collaborate educational programming in the other counties of Extensions Northern District as needed. Programs will be delivered through classes, workshops, demonstrations, research projects, volunteer training sessions, and other methods as appropriate. The educator will promote University of Idaho Extension programs with clientele, elected officials, and other community partners through newsletters, websites, press releases, radio/television, and social media. The educator will assist with 4-H activities during the Clearwater County Fair.
In addition, the educator will provide administrative leadership serving as the Clearwater County administrative chair.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science in agricultural area that may include, Animal Science, Crop Science, Agricultural Economics, Food Systems, Horticulture, Extension Education, or other Agricultural Science degrees.
  • Experience adapting research-based materials into oral and written presentations.
  • Experience providing organizational structure and support for a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Experience collaborating in teams focused on achieving positive educational outcomes.
  • Experience using up-to-date computer technology to market programs and communicate with stakeholders and clientele.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with program audiences.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in Extension and/or a Land Grant University.
  • At least three years of experience in Extension education or demonstrated ability and skill in animal science, forestry management, range science, agriculture, crop science, or farm management (relevant experience acquired within last five years preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to design innovative and effective educational programs in response to local needs; implement and market programs and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Leadership and work experience in livestock and/or crop production and forestry management.
  • Experience in grant application and administration.
  • Experience working in youth development programs.
  • Supervisory experience and proven ability to lead, mentor, and coach others.
  • At least 3 years management, business, or technical agriculture work experience (relevant experience acquired within last 5 years preferred).
  • Extension experience providing effective instruction, support, and promotion for educational programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of tribal culture common in northern Idaho.



Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule (i.e. participate in evening and weekend programs).
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 50 lbs.
