Job Title: Medical Assistant - Orthopedic Office



The Medical Assistant in an orthopedic office provides essential clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and ensures smooth and efficient patient care. This role involves assisting orthopedic physicians with patient examinations, preparing patients for treatments and procedures, managing medical records, and ensuring the office runs smoothly on a daily basis. The Medical Assistant will help patients feel comfortable and informed during their visits and will contribute to the efficient flow of the practice. Each Medical Assistant has a primary physician they will be assigned to but is still available to assist all Providers.

Key Responsibilities:



Clinical Support: (Clinic Days)

Assist orthopedic physicians with patient examinations and procedures by preparing examination rooms and equipment. Chart Preparation prior to clinic to include verifying consent forms, insurance information, and any imaging studies or labs have been completed and results are in the chart. Patient Intake: Take and record patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and weight/BMI and confirm medical history, allergies, medications and pharmacy are in the chart. Enter in the HPI following the template in the EHR. Prepare patients for orthopedic procedures, including assisting with positioning and providing instructions as directed by the physician. Administer prescribed medications and injections (as directed by the physician) and provide patient education on medication use. Assist with the application and removal of orthopedic casts, braces, splints, and other devices. Providing DME to include appropriate fitting for the brace, signing all DME forms, adding to DME/Injection tracker. Clean and sterilize medical instruments and maintain a sterile environment in examination rooms. Prepare and send specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper handling and documentation. Assist in entering orders such as physical therapy, imaging (x-rays/MRI), pharmacy, or referrals to another provider. Phlebotomy and being proficient in preparing PRP, A2M, and Visco supplementation Injections.

Collect deductibles relating to the clinic visit, injections, DME, casting, or surgical fees.

Manages the triage phone and responds to patients' phone or email messages in a timely manner.
Administrative Support:

If the clinic is backlogged, can assist with patient check-in and check-out, including providing assistance with billing and payment collection when required. Maintain and organize patient records and documents in compliance with HIPAA guidelines. Coordinate with other healthcare providers, specialists, and clinics for referrals or additional care as directed by the physician. Completing any FMLA forms or any other clerical patient needs per the physician's directions. Ensure that the office's medical equipment and supplies are well-stocked and maintained. Following up on DME/Injection Tracker and the Referral Tracker
Surgery Scheduling Support (Administrative Day)

Schedule and coordinate orthopedic surgeries, including pre-operative appointments, and post-operative appointments. This is typically completed during the clinic at the time the patient decides to proceed with surgery. Communicate with patients to confirm surgery dates, provide pre-operative instructions, and provide lab/EKG/Medical clearance orders. This is sent to the patient via email on the same day that they schedule surgery. Provide the necessary documentation to be submitted to our billing companies for pre-authorizations and following up that we have received approval prior to surgery.

Medical Assisting: 4 years (Required)
