Job Description

Overview

Cedar Springs Christian Retreat Center provides a quiet, peaceful, and natural environment for churches and Christian organizations to get away and encounter God in ways that bring growth and refreshment. The Director serves as the chief administrator, ensuring that Cedar Springs continues to be a place of mission-based, Christ-centered hospitality.

The Role

Motivated by a heart for hospitality, the Director provides overall leadership for the retreat center, ensuring smooth operations, healthy staff culture, and faithful stewardship of resources. Working closely with the board and a team of experienced managers, the Director maintains a refreshing retreat environment for churches and ministries. This position does not include program development or fundraising responsibilities typical of some camp ministries. Instead, the focus is on guest services and relationships, operations, staff leadership, and stewardship of the property and mission.

Key Responsibilities

Mission Leadership

Model and foster a relational, Christ-like culture of hospitality based on a genuine interest in and value of others. Ensure that operations, staff, and guest groups align with the mission of Cedar Springs.

Organizational Leadership

Supervise and support four department managers -- Housekeeping, Food Service, Guest Services/Office, Grounds & Maintenance. Oversee a staff team of around 30 full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees, hiring, training, and providing feedback as needed. Promote teamwork, staff development, and healthy work culture.

Operational Oversight

Ensure guest groups experience excellence in hospitality, facilities, and services. Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and upkeep across campus. Set organizational priorities and work with managers to plan and deliver services. Host weekend guest groups on a monthly basis; should reside within 20 minutes to be able to respond to on-site emergency needs.

Administration & Finance

Oversee budgeting, financial accountability, and wise stewardship of resources. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, tax, and safety standards. Report regularly to the Board of Directors on operations and finances.

Board & Community Relations

Collaborate with the Board of Directors to pursue the mission and strategic goals. Cultivate relationships with churches, ministry partners, and surrounding community.

Qualifications

Spiritual

Mature and growing Christian faith with a commitment to servant leadership. Alignment with the mission, values, and statement of faith of Cedar Springs. Demonstrated spiritual leadership and possess discernment regarding spiritual matters.

Professional/Experiential

Professional leadership experience in managing people, finances and projects. Strong understanding of non-profit ministry operations, including hiring and supervising employees, budgeting, and risk management.

Personal Competencies

Relational. The work is independent but people-focused, we need someone who enjoys people, possesses a hospitable spirit, and relates easily with others. Decision-making and problem solving skills. Cedar Springs is a dynamic environment that requires creating plans and maintaining flexibility during unexpected challenges. Caretaking. The role is well-suited for those who find fulfillment in maintaining and improving operations and supporting staff; those with strong entrepreneurial and developer instincts may feel limited.

Preferred Background

Christian retreat ministry, hospitality management, or nonprofit leadership experience. Familiarity with retreat or conference center operations. Some exposure to financial management and property oversight.
