We are seeking a highly experienced

Executive Director of Operations - Drayage & Port Logistics

to take full ownership of our drayage/intermodal division, drive expansion, secure shipper relationships, and develop new revenue opportunities.

This is a high-impact role for a leader ready to build national drayage operations using the company's available resources, growth capital, and operational support.

Position Summary



The Executive Director of Drayage & Intermodal Operations will lead our port logistics division, scale our operations into additional ports nationwide, build relationships with shippers and BCOs, and secure procurement opportunities to grow revenue.

This leader will bring strong industry connections, deep knowledge of port operations, and the ability to design systems that grow volume, speed, profitability, and compliance across the entire drayage network.

This is for someone who understands

NY/NJ terminals, port efficiency, container flow, turn-time strategy, chassis management, and intermodal partnerships

, and can execute expansion into ports such as Savannah, Charleston, Norfolk, Houston, Los Angeles/Long Beach, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities



Port Drayage Operations & Leadership



Oversee all daily operations in NY/NJ port drayage and intermodal movements. Manage dispatch, container flow, chassis usage, driver coordination, and appointment systems. Ensure compliance with terminal rules, FMCSA, DOT, safety, and port authority requirements. Optimize turn times, lane efficiency, and cost structure to maximize daily output.

Growth & Expansion into New Ports



Lead expansion efforts into multiple U.S. ports (Savannah, Charleston, Houston, LA/LB, etc.). Identify and evaluate new port markets based on volume, revenue potential, and partnerships. Establish operational hubs, dispatch teams, driver pools, and local vendor relationships. Build scalable SOPs for each new region.

Shipper, Broker & BCO Relationships



Build and maintain relationships with shippers, forwarders, brokers, NVOCCs, and BCOs. Secure new drayage contracts, lanes, and long-term procurement opportunities. Develop strategic partnerships to expand volume and market share. Attend industry events, port association meetings, and shipper networking forums to build reach.

Procurement, Contracts & Business Development



Drive procurement strategy with a focus on expanding volume and revenue. Negotiate rates, long-term contracts, and preferred carrier partnerships. Leverage existing company resources to create new business opportunities. Identify untapped markets and revenue channels within the drayage and intermodal ecosystem.

Team Building & Internal Structure



Build and lead port operations teams (dispatchers, compliance, port clerks, regional managers). Work with recruiting to hire port drivers, owner-ops, and regional leads. Train staff on port systems, appointment platforms, and drayage-focused SOPs. Develop scalable workflows that support multi-port operations.

Financial Performance & Analytics



Oversee revenue, settlements, lane profitability, equipment utilization, and cost management. Analyze daily/weekly performance metrics and implement corrective strategies. Reduce unnecessary expenses, detention, demurrage, and per diem losses. Build P&L models for current and future port locations.

Industry Strategy & Operational Intelligence



Bring the business logic needed to scale: forecasting volume evaluating port congestion planning chassis capacity building multi-driver coverage projecting margins on short-haul vs long-haul drayage Implement systems for long-term operational continuity and competitive advantage.

Qualifications



Required



5-10+ years of experience

in drayage, port logistics, intermodal freight, or terminal operations. Strong understanding of port systems (PNCT, Maher, APM, GCT Bayonne, Red Hook, etc.). Demonstrated experience securing drayage contracts and building shipper/BCO relationships. Experience scaling port operations or launching new port markets. Strong operational knowledge of chassis pools, demurrage, appointment systems, and port constraints. Management experience over dispatch, drivers, and port support staff.

Preferred



Established network of shippers, brokers, forwarders, or importers. Experience expanding into ports across the East Coast, Gulf, or West Coast. Strong experience with financial analysis, margins, lane profitability, and P&L ownership. Background working with carriers servicing Maersk/PT, MSC, CMA, Evergreen, Cosco, OOCL, etc.
