The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center (HSPRAC). This individual is responsible for the overall management, leadership, and strategic direction of the organization, ensuring the humane care and adoption of animals and promoting the organization's mission within the community. The Director oversees all day-to-day operations, staff management, budgeting, and community outreach, with a strong emphasis on fundraising, donor development, and financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Oversee daily operations of the shelter, including animal care, adoptions, volunteer coordination, and administrative functions.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff to maintain a positive, mission-driven work environment.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to animal welfare and nonprofit operations.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure effective and humane operations.
Work closely with the Board of Directors to establish strategic goals and implement organizational initiatives.
Willing to obtain certifications required by Board of Directors to assist in all areas of the shelter.
Fundraising & Development
Lead all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, planned giving, and grant writing.
Plan and execute annual fundraising campaigns, special events, and donor recognition programs.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, community partners, foundations, and local businesses.
Develop marketing and communication strategies to enhance visibility and community engagement.
Oversee donor database management and ensure accurate record-keeping and timely acknowledgment of contributions.
Financial Management
Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
Monitor financial performance to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
Pursue diversified revenue streams to support long-term organizational sustainability.
Community & Public Relations
Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for HSPRAC.
Foster strong relationships with community organizations, governmental agencies, and the media.
Promote humane education and responsible pet ownership within the community.
Represent the organization at events, meetings, and public engagements.
Qualifications & Compensation
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
College degree not required*
Experience:
Previous experience in animal care, nonprofit management, or related fields is a plus but not required* Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Passion for animal welfare and community engagement
Ability to coordinate staff, volunteers, and fundraising activities
Drug screen and criminal background check required

Salary range:
$50,000 - $65,000
