Mission at the Eastward (MATE) is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to promoting hope, dignity, and security for neighbors in rural Maine battling housing insecurity. Through volunteer home repairs, transitional housing, and youth outreach, MATE mobilizes volunteers and mission partners from across the country to improve lives and strengthen communities in Central Western Maine.
POSITION SUMMARY
MATE is seeking a mission-driven
Executive Director
to serve as the organization's chief executive and primary ambassador. The Executive Director provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction while ensuring organizational health, growth, and sustainability.
This role has a
strong focus on fundraising and resource development
, along with oversight of financial management, staff leadership, and community engagement. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and supervises and supports MATE's other employees, contractors, and volunteers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Leadership:
Provide strategic direction that aligns with MATE's mission and long-term goals.
Partner with the Board of Directors on governance, planning, and organizational performance.
Lead, mentor, and support staff while fostering a collaborative, mission-driven culture.
Serve as MATE's public ambassador with donors, churches, partners, and the community.
Fundraising & Development:
Lead all fundraising efforts, including annual giving, donor relations, major gifts, and campaigns.
Cultivate individual donors, churches, foundations, and community partners.
Write and manage grants; oversee reporting and stewardship.
Lead fundraising events and strengthen donor tracking and communications systems.
Financial Oversight:
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash-flow management.
Ensure transparent and responsible financial practices.
Work with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to support financial sustainability.
Staff, Board & Volunteer Leadership:
Supervise staff and contractors.
Support professional development and a culture of respect and inclusion.
Collaborate with the Board on governance and strategic initiatives.
Empower volunteers and mission partners as ambassadors for MATE.
Community Engagement:
Build partnerships with churches, nonprofits, agencies, and community organizations.
Represent MATE in public forums and local networks.
Communicate MATE's mission and impact through stories, digital content, and presentations.
Program Support
Support the Operations Manager in delivering housing repair and transitional housing programs.
Assist with program development, volunteer coordination, and community engagement.
Collaborate on program improvements, innovation, and guest onboarding for transitional housing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Bachelor's degree (Master of Divinity or related field a plus).
Proven success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant writing.
Nonprofit or faith-based leadership experience.
Strong financial management skills.
Experience leading staff, volunteers, and/or boards with a collaborative approach.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
Experience in community development or nonprofit housing repair.
Knowledge of basic construction or home repair principles.
Commitment to MATE's mission and values.
BENEFITS
Salary:
$55,000-$65,000
Health Insurance Premium Reimbursement:
up to $500/month
