Under the general supervision of the Education Oversight Committee, the Executive Director serves as the agency head and directs the operations of the Accountability Division. The Executive Director develops evaluation plans and oversees research on the monitoring, development, and implementation of the performance-based accountability system with the public education system. The Executive Director carries out the responsibilities regarding the review and evaluation of all aspects of the South Carolina Education Accountability Act of 1998 as amended and the Education Improvement Act of 1984 (EIA), and other EIA-funded programs. Produces reports for the Education Oversight Committee, the General Assembly, and the public. Engages parents, business and education leaders, and the public in conversations surrounding ideas to continuously improve education outcomes for South Carolina students. In this position the agency head will perform the following roles:
  • Coordinate the oversight of the development, establishment, implementation, and maintenance of the accountability system.
  • Monitor and evaluate the functioning of the public education system and its components, programs, policies, and practices.
  • Review and make recommendations on the State education system to ensure compliance with legislative mandates.
  • Develop plan and carry out activities to meet the Education Oversight Committee\'s responsibilities for implementation of the Act and all reviews as specified.
  • Conduct additional studies and review as requested by the Education Oversight Committee and as required by law.
  • Provide reports on the evaluation and review of implementation and impact of programs.
  • Manage the agency\'s budget.
  • Supervise research staff members.
  • Complete agency accountability reports and budget request documents as required.
  • Communicate with and responds to questions and data requests from the Governor\'s Office, the General Assembly, the State Board of Education, and the South Carolina Department of Education. This position or any position reporting to the Director shall not urge or oppose any legislation.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.


A Master\'s degree or higher with experience in education or education policy at the state or district level.
