Job Description

At Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC), we are seeking an

Executive Assistant & Communication Specialist

to help us light up the Last Frontier.


Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) is a unique electric generation and distribution cooperative, serving 59 communities across Alaska. Our operation spans 46 small, isolated grids relying on a mix of diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.


As an

Executive Assistant & Communication Specialist

at AVEC each day is a dynamic journey filled with tasks that keep the heart of our cooperative beating strong. A typical workload for the Executive Assistant & Communication Specialist might include:

Compiling information and preparing reports, spreadsheets, and presentations requested by the President & CEO. Scheduling and organizing board meetings for the CEO and Board of Directors. These meetings would include drafting, compiling, and distributing meeting agendas, resolutions, and information packets. During and after the meetings, you would record, draft, and maintain meeting minutes, and distribute revisions as directed. Writing newsletters, website content, social media posts, press releases, and brochures. Maintaining Bylaws, editing, publishing, and distributing revisions as directed. Maintaining policy and procedure manuals and distributing revisions as directed. Drafting ballots, compiling nominations, and supporting the nominating committee in annual elections. Monitoring and maintaining Cooperative digital media including website and other social media. Hosting events and coordinating travel for the President & CEO and board members.

The ideal

Executive Assistant & Communication Specialist

should have:

Courtesy, diplomacy, and tact Exceptional organization and time management abilities Ability to organize and administer meetings in-person and online Effective communication skills Ability to write stories and compile engaging content for media publication Ability to read, understand, and revise Bylaws, tariffs, policies and other technical documents. Strong adaptability

We offer a comprehensive pay and benefit package for full-time employees. Pay starts at $36.90 per hour and is dependent upon experience. You will receive great benefits such as Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) with employer match, Retirement Pension Plan, Life Insurance, and Short- and Long-Term Disability. Paid leave starts at 21 days per year, and we also offer 8 paid Holidays plus 2 Floating Holidays and 1 Birthday Holiday.
