Our Mission
Crystal Boyack is a highly creative, deeply driven violin educator whose work centers on transforming early childhood violin education--making it more joyful and more musical. Through her curriculum writing and teacher training with Crystal Boyack Music Studio, and through her Suzuki Violin and Music Together teaching at Roots & Wings Community Music School, she is shaping the next generation of young musicians and the teachers who guide them.
Her mission is to create musical experiences that nurture confident children, inspired teachers, and supported families.
As her Executive Assistant, you play a key role in that mission--ensuring the day-to-day details run smoothly so she can stay focused on creating, teaching, and leading with full vision and impact.

Position Overview
We are looking for a highly organized, music-literate, proactive assistant to support two music-education businesses. The job is built around three core responsibilities:
1. SHIPPING ORDERS (Primary Daily Task)
Each morning, you will:
Log in and check for overnight orders
Print labels and packing slips
Package and prepare books for shipping
Drop off at USPS, UPS, or FedEx
Must have:
Working computer and printer
Ability to store shipping supplies (provided to you)
Reliable transportation
Strong consistency and reliability--orders must ship quickly
2. EDITING MUSIC BOOKS
You will help revise and prepare Crystal's teaching materials and books.
Must be able to:
Use music notation software (such as Flat.io) or learn quickly
Identify typos in music (wrong rhythms, incorrect bowings, fingerings, notes, or formatting errors)
Follow Crystal's style guidelines for notation and book layout
This role is perfect for someone who:
Plays violin (or another instrument)
Is comfortable working with notation
Enjoys editing and layout work
3. ROOTS & WINGS ERRANDS
Weekly errands may include:
Trips to the printer
Making copies
Walgreens pickups
Posting signs or flyers
On-site work required for:
Weekly team meeting (Nob Hill)
Fridays 11 AM-2 PM (Nob Hill) for projects, organization, and music editing tasks
Schedule & Hours
Daily:
Begin between 6:00-8:00 AM for shipping tasks (15-60 minutes) Consistency is essential--families rely on fast shipping.
Mornings vary between no orders and 10 orders.
Weekly:
1-5 hours of errands, music notation, editing, and small tasks
On-site Fridays 11-2
One weekly on-site meeting
You must keep your phone on you during business hours to respond to time-sensitive messages needs.

Software You Should Know or Be Willing to Learn
Music Notation (such as Sibelius or flat.io) Canva (layout and graphics)
Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Docs)
Wix (website backend basics--updating events, copying links, etc.)
Trelo or similar task management system
Pirate Ship
Basic email platforms (Gmail, email templates, sending to groups)
Non-negotiables:
You read sheet music fluently
You understand elementary violin fingerings and bowings
You have a working computer and printer
You have reliable transportation
You genuinely enjoy supporting a creative, high-energy educator
Screening Tasks (Required)
Only candidates who complete all tasks will be considered.
1. Handwriting Sample
Upload a handwritten card that says:
"Dear Johnny - We hope your birthday is full of magic, memories and (of course) music. With love, Crystal Roots & Wings Music"
Tell us where the typo is and what the correct notation should be.
3. Errand and Practicality Test
Answer in 3-5 sentences:
"You have to ship two packages, pick up copies from the printer, water the studio plants, and get new markers for the bulletin board before noon. How do you plan your morning?"
This screens for efficiency, real-world problem-solving, and your ability to manage the practical details that keep our studio running smoothly.
Compensation
$15-$20 per hour, depending on experience. Raises available with consistency, competence, and role expansion.
