This individual will work closely with the classroom teacher and other school personnel to support English Learners (ELs) in achieving academic success. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to provide instructional assistance to students in a culturally and linguistically responsive environment.The role involves providing direct assistance to students in the classroom, helping with lesson implementation, and offering personalized support based on individual student needs. This position is essential in fostering an inclusive learning environment and ensuring that students will have the tools and encouragement they need to succeed academically and socially.This job description outlines the core duties and responsibilities for the position.

The ideal candidate should be flexible and adaptable in meeting the evolving needs of the District.Key Responsibilities: Assist ESL and/or content teachers in delivering engaging and effective language instruction to English learners.Assist English learners with comprehension, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skillsSupport students individually or in small groups to reinforce language development and comprehension skills.Assist the teacher(s) to whom assigned in all aspects of instructional activities.Help implement the school curricula, including the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.Assist students in the classroom, on the playground, on field trips, and in any other places associated with the teachers schedule/program.Act to ensure the safety of students at all times.Assist in the administration of language assessments and record-keeping of student progress.Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.Provide a favorable learning environment, ensuring that the instructional area is arranged in a clean and orderly manner and all instructional materials are readily available and well maintained.Assist with communication between school and families, including translation and interpretation if applicable.Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ESL education.Perform as part of a team and act to promote collegiality and professionalism at all times.Perform other duties as assigned by the ESL Coordinator or school administration.Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors degree in education, linguistics, or a related field preferred.Prior experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably with English LearnersKnowledge of second-language acquisition and ESL teaching strategies.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and parents.Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or another language commonly spoken by our school community is a plus.Basic proficiency in using technology to support instruction.Additional Requirements: Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts regulations.Completion of any required training or certifications upon hire, including first aid, CPR, and behavior management training.Important Note: Applicants who are hired for this position and are found to have provided falsified or inaccurate information during the application process are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.Compensation and Benefits: Full-Time Exempt Salary Position in accordance with the established Instructional Assistant Salary Scale.
