The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for an Equipment Operator Journey 2 to help us

What you will be doing:

As part of a maintenance crew, this position performs various tasks associated with the year-round maintenance of state highways within the Fairbanks District. The work includes but is not limited to operating and servicing heavy and light-duty equipment, maintenance of all vegetation, signs, barricades, fences, bridges, culverts and drainage structures, bike paths and road surfaces within the State Right-of-Way, as well as performing traffic control duties including flagging. Incumbent will be assigned to one of four snow removal crews in winter and one of four road repair crews in summer. Shift work is required.

This position is located at Birch Lake, Alaska. As part of the Fairbanks Maintenance & Operations team, the selected candidate will perform numerous year round highway maintenance and operations tasks within the Fairbanks District boundaries.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of:

  • Skilled in the safe operation of heavy equipment in a construction or highway maintenance setting.
  • Ability to work as part of a high functioning team.
  • Ability to receive and follow directions both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally (at times via two-way radio) and in writing. \xe2\x80\xa2 Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Special Note:
This is journey level position and requires previous CDL level experience.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER\'S LICENSE REQUIRED
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

Equipment Operator Journey 2
A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY
Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

WORK EXPERIENCE
When utilizing work experience not already documented in your Applicant Profile, also provide the employer\'s name, your job title, dates of employment and whether full-time or part-time within your cover letter. Applications and resumes will be reviewed to determine if the minimum qualifications are clearly met. EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required or is used as a substitution to meet the minimum qualifications, it is required to complete the Education section of your Profile.
