About Us



Pacific Crest Equine Veterinary Services is an equine exclusive veterinary practice that provides general and emergency veterinary care in the greater Portland, OR area. We have patients and clients of all disciplines, from high end performance horses to beloved pasture pets. We are seeking a team player who is motivated and has the desire and ability to grow with our team. We are a team that enjoys each other's company and are extremely protective of the unique, supportive culture we have developed. We believe this environment allows us to better communicate with each other and our clients to create a truly unique work culture. This is a full time (30-40 hours per week) position with no weekend work required. Schedules typically include 3-4 days a week starting at 8am, until work is completed (typically 4-6pm, end of day can be variable).

About the Role



Our veterinary assistants are the chameleons of the clinic. They will directly assist doctors with their appointments both in the clinic and on farms and also actively participate in administrative office duties including client communications (phone calls and emails), scheduling, invoicing, and other daily tasks. This role requires the individual to be able to effectively communicate and multitask. Excellent horse handling skills are a must; more specific technical skills can be taught to qualified candidates.

Pay is hourly starting at a minimum of $17.00hr, potentially higher depending on experience. Opportunities for raises.

Duties include:



Veterinary Assistant:



Greet clients at the clinic for haul-in appointments and assist with loading/unloading of patients if needed Communicate with clients in a professional manner and refer questions to veterinarians as needed Assess daily equipment needs for veterinarians and pack them appropriately Assess daily vaccine/pharmacy/special equipment needs for veterinarians and pack appropriately Greet client on the farm and assess location for set-up of equipment Pack and unpack equipment/supplies from veterinary vehicles as needed May be required to drive veterinary vehicles to/from appointments Handle equines of all types for various veterinary procedures in a safe and professional manner. Procedures include but not limited to Sedated dentistry exams and procedures Jogging for lameness evaluation Lunging for lameness evaluation Mare reproductive exams Emergency exams in unpredictable locations Administer oral medications to horses Intramuscular and intravenous administration of medications Clean and maintain equipment as needed Complete fecal parasite screens in the clinic Maintain and clean exam room, barn, stalls, and parking areas at clinic

Office:



Answer incoming telephone calls and emails and communicate with clients in a professional and timely manner. Direct questions and communications to the appropriate veterinarian or staff member. Professionally interact with clients both verbally and in written communications. Perform clerical duties related to veterinary care and treatment, processes invoices and payments, direct incoming phone calls and provide miscellaneous support to the veterinary team. Accurately verify and fill online pharmacy prescriptions as prescribed by each veterinarian Prepare basic fee estimates. Prepare health & coggins certificates and submit laboratory requests Unpack and stock supplies Make follow-up phone calls to clients regarding patient well-being and document all conversations in our medical record system. Keep the office area clean, organized and a positive area. Help track and schedule needed maintenance/repairs of veterinary vehicles Help track and schedule needed maintenance/repairs of veterinary equipment Any miscellaneous duties required by the office manager to help maximize efficiency

Scheduling:



Schedule appointments and maintains an effective veterinarian appointment schedule
prioritizing cases as required.

Continuously update appointments and communicate with the appropriate staff member in a timely manner. Relay delays in appointment times when necessary.

Ability to Commute



This is an in person position. Must be able to reliably commute to the Oregon City/Beavercreek area.

Qualifications:



People Skills:

Must have an excellent ability to interact with people in a positive manner.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Office Experience:

One or more years experience in a veterinary clinic, medical office or related field is desirable. Experience working in the equine veterinary industry will be highly considered.

Equine Experience:

Safe and professional horse handling skills and knowledge of basic horse care and terminology

Driving:

Must have current driver's license and be comfortable being either a driver or a passenger

Geography:

Knowledge of basic local geography to help schedule efficiently

Language Ability:

Excellent ability to speak, understand and correspond in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability

: Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, add subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Computer Skills:

Computer literacy in common computer software programs including Microsoft Office and Google Suite (docs, sheets, etc.). Ability to gain proficiency using our medical record system.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, employee may have to stand or sit for long periods of time, it may require squatting or being in otherwise uncomfortable positions at times and may require lifting upwards of 50 lbs. Extensive portions of this job will be performed outdoors and/or in barns at ambient temperatures.
