The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is recruiting for an
Epidemiologist
to serve as a senior-level epidemiologist within the Bureau of Environmental Health and Communicable Disease's Epidemiology Section. The successful candidate will provide epidemiological support for respiratory diseases, including tuberculosis and other communicable disease exposures in the State of Idaho. Analysis of data from various surveillance systems will be used to identify promotable interventions that aim to alleviate adverse health effects from exposure to respiratory diseases and other communicable diseases. The Epidemiologist will propose practices based on findings that will positively impact public health and collaborate with the Bureau Surveillance and Analytics Section regarding surveillance practices. Responsibilities also include serving as the Tuberculosis Control Program Manager and Principal Investigator for the Tuberculosis Elimination and Laboratory Cooperative Agreement. The Epidemiologist will have the opportunity to lead and/or participate in a diverse cadre of ad hoc communicable disease projects, investigations, and responses.
This is a
statewide
position and will report to their nearest DHW location.
This position may be eligible for limited telework after successful completion of probation and necessary training. Approval to telecommute is not guaranteed and subject to termination at any time.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Works as a team member, under the direction of the Epidemiology Section Manager, to conduct epidemiologic functions comprising surveillance, data collection, data analysis using epidemiologic methods, and assistance with epidemiologic investigations.
Provides epidemiological consultation for respiratory diseases, tuberculosis, and other communicable diseases.
Conducts literature reviews and advanced descriptive and comprehensive analyses of surveillance data for multiple audiences and reports key findings.
Participates in program evaluation.
Uses performance measures to evaluate and improve Tuberculosis Control Program and Epidemiology Section effectiveness.
Manages the Tuberculosis Control Program including serving as Cooperative Agreement Principal Investigator and managing all cooperative agreement functions, maintaining the Idaho Tuberculosis Manual, monitoring budgets and subgrants, and providing consultation for laboratory testing and clinical follow up in collaboration with the Idaho TB Controller (physician).
Monitors subgrantee/contractor compliance with scope of work activities.
May lead or participate in specialized workgroups that seek to identify solutions to an identified problem (e.g., standardizing a business process) as a representative of the Section or Bureau.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Considerable knowledge of public health principles. Typically gained by obtaining a Master's degree in a public health OR Master's in behavioral/biological sciences with emphasis in public health/epidemiology; AND a minimum of 2 years of job experience in a public health field which could include public health research, public health practice, or work in an academic institution with focus on public health.
Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of epidemiology. Typically gained if an applicant has two years minimum experience involving one specific condition, risk factor, or health outcome. Experience could be as an analyst, evaluator, or other epidemiological support position.
Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.
Experience in tuberculosis or respiratory disease epidemiology.
Typically gained by at least 1 year working as an epidemiologist with duties focused on respiratory diseases or tuberculosis.
Advanced degree in medicine, public health, or epidemiology.
Typically gained by holding a medical degree (MD), doctor of osteopathy (DO), Doctorate of Public Health (DrPH), or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in public health or epidemiology.
