POSITION DESCRIPTION:

PERIKIN\'s Environmental Technicians are part of a team that removes, remediates, or cleans up any environmental or recyclable waste. Technicians assist environmental teams in performing on-site work like removing and dismantling cylinders; some work on emergency response teams that handle sites immediately after hazardous waste accidents. The Environmental Waste Technician will report directly to the team lead or project manager. The Technician will be responsible for performing tasks associated with collecting and handling hazardous materials from Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, self-driven, works well with cross-functional teams, takes pride in safe work practices, is productive, has organization skills, and has attention to detail.

SALARY

Prevailing Wage Davis Bacon position. Federal contract located at Fort Bliss. Without Company Benefits $34.38 Hourly Rate. With Full Company Benefits $29.40 Hourly Rate.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

Environmental Field Services position reports to the Project Manager and/or Lead Technician. General duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Handling various products, hazardous waste, and hazardous and non-hazardous materials
  • Weekly/monthly pick up and transportation of RCRA-regulated waste to the Hazardous Waste Storage Facility (HWFS) from the Satellite Accumulation Points (SAP)
  • Staging, profiling, and processing for disposal of Hazardous, Universal, and non-hazardous waste
  • Assists in pickup and transport of Hazardous Waste/Petroleum Oil Lubricant (POL) from Satellite Accumulation Points to the storage facility. (Haz Waste clean-up at spill sites)
  • Provides guidance to generators through in-house RCRA Awareness Training
  • Operate, maintain, and clean all Government-issued equipment
  • Provide SAP Surveillance reports on all SAPs serviced
  • Maintain logs of working hours in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations
  • Participates in the DPW-Environmental in-house Spill Response Team (to include after-hour clean up)
  • Assist in the Sustainability Operations as needed, including drum washing, drum crushing, aerosol can de-pressurizing, fluorescent tube crushing, ban saw for recycling of fire extinguishers, etc
  • Fuel/POL/Antifreeze pumping from Above Storage Tanks (AST)
  • Other duties as assigned or needed
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High school graduate or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in an environmental tech industry or similar environment
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training OSHA Emergency Response
  • A valid drivers license is required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Proficient in Outlook and Word
  • Pass annual drug and alcohol testing and/or random drug and alcohol testing
  • Pass Fit for Duty test and respirator test annually
  • Title 49 CFR (Transportation) Sec 172.704 (DOT training requirement/every 3 years)
  • OSHA Standard 1910.120 (first aid certification, respirator fit testing, and baseline physical
  • Department of Transportation CDL Hazmat Endorsement Drivers License (for employees operating waste transport vehicles of more than 5 tons)
  • HAZCOM (OSHA Hazard Communication Training)
  • Forklift Safety Operator Training per OSHA Standard 1910.170
  • Adaptability to work on all aspects of the HWFS Program
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, tuggers, and carts
  • Ability to interface with coworkers and Fort Bliss personnel
  • Ability to complete basic job-related paperwork, including time sheets, Satellite Accumulation Point Surveillance Reports, dig permits, etc
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including Respiratory Protection
  • Ability to work in or around extreme temperatures
  • Ability to lift or carry heavy objects of more than 50 lbs
  • Ability to kneel, squat, or bend for a long duration
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks on wet or slippery work surfaces
  • Ability to walk or climb stairs or ladders frequently
