Position Summary

The working Environmental Services (EVS) Supervisor is responsible for performing daily cleaning and disinfection duties while providing leadership and support to the EVS team. This role ensures the hospital environment meets infection prevention, safety, and quality standards through hands-on work and supervision. The working EVS Supervisor serves as a role model for team performance, customer service, and adherence to hospital policies while maintaining assigned cleaning responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assists the EVS Leader in daily operations and oversight of the department.
Provides guidance, coaching, and support to EVS staff to ensure high-quality cleaning standards.
Assigns and adjusts daily work schedules and assignments based on staffing and workload.
Monitors employee performance, conducts rounding, and reports concerns to the EVS Leader.
Participates in staff training, education, and competency validation related to cleaning, infection prevention, and safety.
Serves as acting supervisor/manager in the absence of the EVS Leader.
Working Responsibilities:
Completes daily assigned cleaning and disinfection tasks in patient care, clinical, and non-clinical areas.
Follows all infection prevention and control practices, including appropriate use of PPE, hand hygiene, and isolation protocols.
Ensures proper cleaning and disinfection of high-touch surfaces, patient rooms, restrooms, and common areas.
Maintains cleaning equipment, carts, and supplies in a clean and organized manner.
Responds promptly to cleaning requests and supports other staff as needed.
Assists with floor care, terminal cleans, discharge cleans, and emergency cleaning tasks.
Leadership and Support:
Supports the EVS Leader in maintaining compliance with hospital standards, regulatory agencies (CMS, DNV, Joint Commission), and infection control requirements.
Helps monitor supply levels and assists with ordering and inventory control.
Promotes teamwork, respect, and open communication within the department.
Provides input on process improvements and participates in department meetings.
Ensures staff follow safety and hospital policies, including chemical handling and waste management.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 2 years of hospital or healthcare environmental services experience required.
Previous leadership or lead/supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge of infection prevention and hospital cleaning standards required.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and leadership.
Must demonstrate strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
