Position Summary:
Supervise the work activities of assigned personnel to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive conditions at UNM Hospitals. Coordinate activities of the Environmental Services Department with those of other departments to achieve excellence in customer service. Ensure work is performed safely and efficiently by assigned employees. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
Detailed responsibilities:
BED MANAGEMENT - Plan and monitor all discharge activities and/or resources to achieve or improve standard bed turnover times; coordinate Environmental Services activities and/or resources with Bed Management to assist with patient placement
CLEANING SUPERVISION - Ensure proper cleaning techniques and/or disinfecting methods are used and established cleaning standards are maintained by staff; develop staff training or action plans to improve performance
CUSTOMER SERVICE - Conduct weekly patient/customer interviews and ensure discrepancies with cleaning services are corrected; recommend painting, wallpapering, repairs, etc., to improve room appearance
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Oversee the inventory, control and security of cleaning equipment and supplies; distribute equipment and carts ensuring safe functioning and good repair
INSPECTION - Inspect and evaluate physical conditions of assigned areas regularly; monitor progress and observe work of cleaning staff to ensure instructions are followed, projects are completed, deficiencies are corrected and safety rules are observed
ONE-ON-ONES - Conduct regular meetings with direct reports to discuss operational issues, training, competencies updates, bed turnover times, cleaning procedures, projects and feedback, etc.
QUALITY - Document monthly quality rounds with key users/managers in assigned areas; develop action plans correcting deficiencies; maintain efficient communication between all shifts and departments ensuring smooth operation and continuity of work
SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
VEHICLES - Safely operate Hospitals vehicles in compliance with all city, State, Federal and University and departmental regulations and/or policies

Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
