To perform supervisory level of work, performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations and routine field work in Environmental Health for public health protection. This position will focus on the permitting, construction, and maintenance of wells and septic systems and assessing, monitoring, and managing risks related to soil contamination and groundwater quality, especially as it pertains to drinking water wells and land use.
What you'll do
Oversee environmental health and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations.
Conduct thorough training and development sessions for employees on environmental policies, first aid, CPR, and occupational health practices.
Perform root cause analysis for incidents and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
Prepare detailed reports on environmental performance, compliance audits, and incident investigations.
Collaborate with management to implement workers' compensation law protocols effectively.
Monitor manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement in sustainability and safety practices.
Lead initiatives aimed at reducing waste and promoting recycling within the organization.
Serve as a point of contact for all environmental inquiries, providing guidance and support to team members.
Determine if well location is in compliance with State or Local requirements and that the specifications of the well permit are met. Perform work in accordance with State and Local laws, regulations and policies and guidelines in effect.
Supervise and/or conduct percolation and/or infiltrometer tests. Interpret accurate groundwater table data and comprehend the importance. Supervise and/or conduct accurate soil profiles.
Conduct two dimensional measurements from permanent objects to the relative location of all aspects of the septic system, well(s) and all appurtenances. Determine and evaluate if compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and guidelines either at the State or Local level and the conditions of the septic permit are met. Performs work in accordance with State and Local laws, regulations and policies and guidelines in effect.
Perform historical data collection, review of site plans, conduct site visits, and compile a comprehensive collaboration of data to aid the decision making process. Determine and evaluate if compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and guidelines either at the State or Local level and the conditions are being met. Approve or deny building permits.
Basic qualifications
Education:
Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.
Experience:
One year of experience performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute possession of a Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
