ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER/COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST

WATER AND WASTE FOCUS

Working Location- Norwalk, CT



King Industries is actively seeking to hire an Environmental Compliance Specialist. Ideal candidates should have a BS/BA degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or an equivalent in the field of Environmental compliance/stewardship with relevant experience. Candidates should also have some understanding of sampling equipment, pumps, and wastewater treatment. Responsibilities will include managing wastewater discharge compliance in accordance with our State and NPDES Discharge permit, developing and maintaining a computerized system for logging/tracking all inspections as well as other responsibilities listed below. The Environmental Compliance Specialist will be joining the Environmental department.

Education and Experience Requirements:



BS/BA in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or an equivalent degree leaning toward Environmental stewardship/compliance. Mechanical understanding of sampling equipment, pumps, wastewater treatment systems, etc. Experience in environmental permitting is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:



Manage wastewater discharge compliance in accordance with our NPDES River Discharge permit and our State Sewer Discharge permit. Schedule sampling: ensure sample bottles, preservatives and sampling sheets are available; assist in performing sampling, send samples to laboratories for analysis; check analytical reports. Prepare and submit monthly discharge monitoring reports to CTDEEP. Maintain sampling and analytical records. Prepare instructions and forms as necessary; maintain existing instructions and forms including annual reviews of said forms and instructions. Perform training as needed. Manage compliance with Wastewater General Permits including sampling and inspections. Develop and maintain a computerized system for logging all internal inspections and sampling records Manage on-site waste storage and waste shipments. Keep records of waste generation and shipments. Maintain system for tracking waste generation and waste shipments. Maintain labels for waste(s). Generate reports on waste generation by specific area, i.e., process, laboratories, buildings. Track drum pump-outs to hazardous waste tanks. Manage waste shipments including scheduling and preparing shipping paperwork. Develop, implement and track minimization programs. Perform annual waste assessments. Prepare instructions and forms as necessary; maintain existing instructions and forms including annual instruction reviews. Perform training. Assist Environmental Foreman in the plant with waste drum management including daily container management, preparing shipment, performing inventories and loading tank truck. Prepare/assist with preparation of reports including TRI Report, Tier II Report and Biennial Hazardous Waste Report. Assist in the preparation of permits and permit renewals. Assist in fugitive and stack emissions monitoring. Assist in performing daily and weekly site inspections required by RCRA, CWA and CAA as well as general permit requirements. Assist in performing spill investigations as needed. Assist with our Incident Investigations as needed Participates in company wide effort to promote and adhere to quality, occupational health & safety, and environmental (QHSE) management systems in accordance with requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001. Maintain knowledge of how their activities impact the QHSE Management Systems should they deviate from established controls and criteria.
