The Silver Lake Nature Center inspires connections with Nature for people of all ages, interests, and abilities through education, recreation, preservation, research and advocacy. Silver Lake Nature Center is a 265-acre "Natural Treasure" in the southern portion of beautiful Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It's a place where lush foliage, accessible wetlands, and rich woodlands abound. The grounds are maintained to enhance the diversity of plant and animal life and include 7+ miles of Nature Trails.

Our goal is to inspire Visitors with the wonder and beauty of the Natural world and to preserve the priceless heritage of Silver Lake Nature Center and its watershed for generations to come. SLNC offers a variety of Education Programs to Schools, Preschools, Camps, Homeschool Groups, Scout Groups, and Other Groups as well as programs for the General Public. Additional activities include Summer Nature Camps, a Watershed Monitoring program, the "SLNC Earthship" (demonstration zero-carbon building, one that cools and heats itself and is built with recycled materials, & is also used for classes, meetings, and special events), and more. The Silver Lake Nature Center is owned and operated by the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation. The Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center (Friends of SLNC) is a non-profit organization that assists with the management of SLNC by bringing in support from the community to fund an expanded array of program offerings. Both the Friends of SLNC Employees and the County of Bucks Employees work cohesively as a Team.

The

Environmental Educator/Admin Assistant

is a pivotal position at SLNC as this person greets and assists Visitors with their experience, in addition to planning/conducting and scheduling educational programs for groups and the public.

This position includes data entry and preparing necessary reports, assisting with maintaining building functions, teaching and developing Environmental Education Programs.

The Environmental Educator/Admin Assistant is an employee of/funded by the Friends of SLNC - a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The successful candidate will: be highly organized, have a positive, friendly attitude; have an outgoing personality with strong people skills; have a love for Nature; enjoy working on a Team

having fun with their job.

Technical skills required include Microsoft Office, Excel, QuickBooks, database management, and good verbal and written communication skills.

Full time: up to 40 hours/week, including nights/weekends. Year-round, permanent position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Welcome all Visitors to the SLNC Visitors' Center, and introduce them to all that SLNC is, programs/events available, invite to become a Member of Friends of SLNC, to explore the Exhibit Area and Trails. Main workstation will be at the Welcome Desk, with scheduled time away from the Welcome Desk to complete Admin Duties and plan/develop/implement Environmental Education Programming. Works closely with the Director-Naturalist, Assistant Director and Bookkeeper for scheduling, registration, and reporting. When not at the main workstation, coordinate coverage with Staff and/or Volunteers. Process incoming mail and coordinate disbursement of mail. Collect incoming money (accounts receivable), store register, process funds through QuickBooks, prepare bank deposits, and work with Friends of SLNC Bookkeeper as outlined in the Financial Procedures Manual. Register program participants using the Excel and QuickBooks databases. Interact with the public in person, by email, and over the phone to answer questions regarding SLNC and the services offered. Maintain attendance records and prepare monthly reports. Schedule visiting group programs with schools, preschools, camps, homeschool groups, scouts, adult groups, and other groups. Deliver educational programs for groups and the public (for adults &/or children), both on-site and off-site. Coordinate with regular and per diem Staff for additional coverage for programs. Assist with event planning/promotion and registration. Assist with Building and Grounds Maintenance as needed. Grant writing. Other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications include:



B.S. or B.A Degree in Environmental or Outdoor Education, Biology, Parks/Recreation or other related field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, volunteers, various organizations and the public. Strong written/verbal communication skills, including persuasive and effective communication that forwards the purpose and mission of the organization. Self-motivation, innovation, and resourcefulness in doing whatever it takes to get the job done well. Interest in Natural History and Conservation. Adherence to SLNC uniform policy. SLNC provides shirts and a fleece jacket &/or hoodie for all staff. Current Driver's License and reliable transportation. Background Clearances: Federal Criminal History Record, Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.

Job Type:

Full-time (up to 40 hours/week, including weekends and evenings), year-round, permanent position. "Regular" Work Week is Tuesdays-Saturdays

Starting Salary: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Benefits include 401K, paid vacation, 5 paid holidays. (No Medical/Dental benefits.)

Starting Salary is commensurate with experience up to $18/hour.
