Job Summary
This position serves as a part-time environmental educator for the Environmental Education Programs & Support (EEPS) Office and is responsible for environmental education program delivery throughout the City of Raleigh.
Educators deliver hands-on, grade-specific environmental education programs to school groups at a variety of City of Raleigh parks and on school campuses, primarily outdoors. Program lesson plans and materials are provided and all programs have been carefully designed to align with North Carolina learning standards.
This position will support the spring 2026 season, from mid-February through late May, with potential for continued work hours in the remainder of the year.

The ideal candidates for this role possess a strong desire to work with elementary-age students, sharing knowledge and enthusiasm about the natural world.
Individuals in this role should have excellent verbal skills and comfort leading environmental education programs for students and their teachers in outdoor settings.
Ideal candidates are comfortable working independently and also work well as part of a small team.

The EEPS Office is part of Raleigh Parks' Nature Preserves and Programs Team, which is devoted to connecting people and nature through experiences, conservation, and education.

Duties and Responsibilities

Deliver hands-on, grade-specific environmental education programs to school groups at a variety of City of Raleigh parks and on school campuses, primarily outdoors. Provide excellent customer service when greeting and interacting with school groups at City of Raleigh parks. Observe necessary precautions to ensure safety of all program participants; render first aid in case of minor injury. Communicate program and/or site safety concerns to management.

Required Education and Experience:

Education:

A high school degree is required; additional training (such as college degree or enrollment in a degree-seeking program) in elementary education, environmental education, environmental science, or related area is beneficial. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to work weekdays from approximately 9:00 am through 1:30 pm, at least 2 days per week

Preferred Qualifications:

?Experience facilitating hands-on, grade-specific nature programs for elementary aged students both on and off school campuses.

Knowledge of:

Instructional methods and techniques, including group management Techniques and precautions to ensure safety of all program participants

Skill in:

Providing positive customer service? Communicating with coworkers, supervisors, school groups, the general public, and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction? Working and effectively communicating with groups of 10-30 students, particularly elementary aged students from a variety of backgrounds Identifying and communicating program and/or site safety concerns to management

Ability to:

Access reliable transportation allowing travel to and from City of Raleigh parks and Wake County schools. Assess risk, take appropriate precautions, and provide first aid in case of minor injury - training provided upon hire Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and walk at least one mile regularly Work outdoors with exposure to heat, cold, and light rain
