We are seeking candidates to fill the position of Entry-level Civil Design Engineer to serve a varied client base and help expand our Land Development Practice at our Gorrill Palmer office in South Portland, Maine.


The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of progressive experience and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve. The successful candidate will possess a can-do attitude, have a passion for and take pride in their work, be a creative thinker, and have a willingness to collaborate while having the ability to work independently.

Annual Compensation:

$70,000-80,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

ENTRY-LEVEL CIVIL DESIGN ENGINEER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plan and design a wide range of land development projects. Perform engineering calculations or analyses. Prepare drawings and graphics using CAD platforms and other graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Assist in preparing engineering reports, permit applications, bid documents and other typical written communication. Perform construction observation to ensure conformance to design specifications, assist in resolving issues that arise and strengthen design skills through a greater understanding of construction means and methods. Perform various types of engineering modeling tasks, potentially including: Hydraulic pipe sizing, pump station sizing, stormwater runoff calculations and modeling. Prepare quantity takeoffs and opinions of probable construction cost for various design projects. Analyze, review, and understand design guidelines, specifications, ordinances and rules and regulations associated with development and design. Perform basic survey work, such as using a level to confirm elevations of existing site features. Interact and communicate with office staff, design team members, contractors, regulatory officials and clients.

Additional Responsibilities:

Desire to innovate and solve difficult problems from inception to final deliverable. Ability to react quickly and calmly to high-pressure situations. Ability to work independently and in team settings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Other duties as assigned.

ENTRY-LEVEL CIVIL DESIGN ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required. EIT or EI Certification preferred. 1-3 years of experience, required.

Qualifications:

Experience with design and plan production in AutoCad Civil 3D, MicroStation, or equivalent. Knowledge of local, state, and federal design standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
