EL Coordinator- Grades 9-12Location: Milford High School Schedule: 2025-2026 School Year Salary: Per Teachers ContractTo Start: November 2025Qualifications: Massachusetts certification as a teacher in ESL (5-12), requiredMasters degree in English as a Second Language (ESL) or Applied Linguistics (or currently enrolled in a Masters program) preferredMassachusetts certification as Supervisor/Director non-core preferredTaught successfully for at least three years as a grade 9-12 ESL teacher in MAWIDA ACCESS Online Test Administrator & WIDA Alternate Test AdministratorKnowledge of second language learning and sheltering content, familiarity with WIDA 2020 ELD and Massachusetts standards-based curriculum, and standard and alternative methods of assessment.Experience developing, facilitating, and leading professional developmentCoursework or experience in instructional coachingExperience with a variety of ELE programming: newcomer, foundational, transitioning, SLIFE, long-term, ELSWD, Bilingual, and ESL/SEI core-content co-teaching.Computer/technology skills with the ability to utilize various computer software and app programs (student database: Aspen, Google Suite, WIDA DRC, Ellevation, iReady, STAR360, TalkingPoints, Mote, etc.)Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely while respecting the opinions of othersPersonal qualities that will gain the professional respect of members of the subject area and the entire facultyBilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferredDuties and Responsibilities: Meet regularly with the Principal and Assistant Principals, EL Director, and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning to oversee 9-12 ELD curriculum development at each language proficiency level span, using the WIDA 2020 ELD standards, DESE MCUs, and the Understanding by Design (UbD) process to ensure vertical alignment, adequate lesson planning, and resource budget preparation.Be responsible for establishing agendas, facilitating EL common planning and department meetings, and in-service days for EL teachers grades 9-12, and disseminate information within the school in collaboration with the EL director and building administration. Routinely send department minutes to the EL director and building administration.Collaborate with EL director/building administration/Curriculum Team Leads (CTLs) on budget and purchase orders.Schedule and prepare the respective school building for the annual WIDA ACCESS test administration. Work with Special Education Team Chairs on ELSWD accommodations. Pack and return WIDA ACCESS materials.Schedule the beginning- and end-of-year progress monitoring (PM) assessments and provide professional development on administration to the department team members.
Additionally, facilitate data analysis of PM to inform department meetings focused on instructional practices. Collaborate with the EL director and the Principal on data analysis of WIDA ACCESS and MCAS to present information to EL departments, school administration, and the school committee to guide EL course placements and hours of ELD instruction required.Provide individual and/or group instructional coaching to EL and SEI teachers to improve classroom instruction for all learners.Complete all requirements for state English Learner Education programs: parent notification letters, ESL cumulative folder documentation, monitoring forms for reclassified students (FELs) at each grading period, holding meetings for ELs not making adequate progress on an English learner success plan (ELSP), and organizing and disseminating state and local assessments, etc.Develop English learner success plans (ELSPs) for ELs who have not met their annual growth percentage in their English proficiency attainment according to WIDA ACCESS, and meet with teachers to implement the plan.Assist the EL director with compliance standards to be addressed during the English Learner Education (ELE) portion of the Tier Focus Monitoring process performed by DESEs Office of Language Acquisition (OLA).Participate in building-based multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) team meetings to ensure that all EL students receive proper academic, linguistic, behavioral, and emotional support.Partner with School Counselors, Special Education Team Chairs, 504 Coordinator, administration, and other staff members on IEPs, 504s, attendance, dropout prevention, MCAS tutoring, student course recommendations, etc., for enrolled ELs and monitored FELs.Work as a liaison between the Family Resource Center (FRC) and school guidance to determine proper programming and placement for ELs, depending on intake WIDA Screener or ACCESS assessment scores and students prior educational history. Schedule students in Aspen.Communicate regularly with EL students and families via email, face-to-face meetings, Home Visits, and communication apps (i.e., TalkingPoints), and participate in district and school-based parent engagement events.Implement the Seal of Biliteracy under the guidance of the building administration and in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Multilingual and Dual Language Programming and World Language CTL.Participation in five per diem days in August before the start of school for student intakes and EL Coordinator preparation meetings.
