: $30/hour for both classroom instruction and preparation time
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Brook Public Library's English Language Learning (ELL) Program provides high-quality English instruction to adult learners who speak English as a second language. Classes are held twice per week in the evenings, in local churches that partner with us to create a welcoming and enriching learning environment. The program serves up to 50 students across beginner and intermediate levels.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and teach ELL classes using the Ventures Curriculum (3rd Edition) with supplemental material.
Design engaging, interactive lessons for adult learners with varying levels of proficiency.
Foster a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
Track student progress and maintain attendance records.
Collaborate with fellow instructors and the program coordinator on shared planning.
Participate in annual training and mid-year check-ins.
Communicate clearly with students regarding expectations and assignments.
Provide guidance and feedback to help students meet educational goals.
EXPECTATIONS FOR INSTRUCTORS
Instructors must maintain excellent attendance, arriving on time and communicating promptly if emergencies arise.
Lessons must be well-prepared in advance, with flexibility to address questions and learning needs.
Instruction should be engaging, inclusive, and tailored to learners' real-life goals.
Instructors are expected to grade homework, provide feedback, and adapt instruction to ensure understanding.
Maintain a professional and positive attitude, fostering student confidence and participation.
Regularly use data from testing and observations to evaluate student progress.
Collaborate respectfully with other instructors and community partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred but not required).
Experience teaching or tutoring ESL/ELL or adult education is preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Reliable, organized, and passionate about community service.
Must be eligible to work as an independent contractor.

Instructors receive a competitive rate of $30/hour, covering both preparation and classroom time.
