The English Language Arts (ELA) Remediation Teacher facilitates learning for students enrolled at The Excel Center by meeting each learner "where they are." This educator provides targeted instruction to help students strengthen foundational literacy skills, including letter recognition, phonemic awareness, fluency, and reading comprehension. The ELA Remediation Teacher addresses the needs of students requiring additional support beyond regular classroom instruction, ensuring equitable access to literacy success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction tailored to individual learning needs, including online and in-person modalities.
Provide remediation for adult learners whose Lexile levels fall below high school proficiency.
Support students in improving overall literacy and reading comprehension skills.
Collaborate with Life Coaches to develop and implement individualized learning plans based on intake assessments.
Design and implement interventions and lesson plans that incorporate evidence-based instructional methods and materials.
Monitor and assess student progress regularly, adjusting instruction as needed to support mastery of learning goals.
Utilize the Response to Intervention (RTI) framework and tiered instructional strategies to guide remediation efforts.
Promote a culture of reading and writing by fostering engagement and confidence in literacy activities.
Evaluate ongoing programs and provide recommendations for improvement.
Collaborate with Life Coaches and leadership staff to support students' academic and personal success.
Participate in professional development sessions and team meetings as required.

Education and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field required.
Current Tennessee Teaching License with an endorsement in English (K-5 or K-8).
Minimum of two years of post-licensure teaching experience preferred.
Demonstrated success in addressing diverse learning needs and applying differentiated instructional strategies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with online learning platforms.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in data-driven instruction and student progress monitoring.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish highly preferred.
Experience working with adult learners or alternative education programs preferred.
Must successfully pass all required background checks, including criminal background, abuse registry, and drug screening.
Flexibility to work within a 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM schedule.
