Job Summary





The primary duties for the successful candidate will be teaching a full range of English courses, including Composition I, Research, Technical Writing, and Literature for New River Community and Technical College.



Adjunct faculty members serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. Adjunct faculty are expected to excel in classroom instruction and to fulfill various responsibilities related to their assigned teaching duties.

Nature of Work





Provide lecture and enhanced writing lab education through synchronous and asynchronous distance learning.

Summary of Core Responsibilities:




Possess thorough and accurate knowledge in field/discipline of English Demonstrate ability to relate and work effectively with students, peers and the public. Commit to the mission and objectives of New River Community and Technical College. Meet the academic demands of the program. Be available to teach afternoon and evening courses Be accessible and responsive to students through e-mail, phone, or scheduled office hours or at other times. Design courses in D2L Brightspace Meet classes as scheduled. Evaluate student work and maintain accurate records of students' academic standing. Provide students with constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback in a timely manner. Evaluate student performance weekly, at mid-term and at the end of the semester using the appropriate course evaluation tool. Respect the confidentiality of student information; refrain from discussing or releasing such information except within recognized limits. Demonstrate integrity and positive interpersonal and communication skills. Fulfill all expectations of adjunct faculty. Effective teaching via Zoom and online Communicate and collaborate with faculty mentor or department chair. Use common assessment tracking and report the tracking results on time to the department chair. Accurately complete course assessments and submit them within department timelines. Provide the course evaluation at the end of each semester and encourage completion. Fulfill all expectations of adjunct faculty. Education





Bachelor's Degree - Required



Master's Degree - Master's degree in English or a closely related discipline with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in the subject area from a regionally accredited institution. - Required



Experience


In addition to the knowledge/education, the following related work experience is typically required for this position. An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be acceptable.



Two years teaching experience in higher education - Preferred



Experience utilizing technology including Microsoft Word and other software programs. - Required



Experience teaching over an Interactive Video - Preferred



Teaching Dual Enrollment - Preferred
