Job Summary

To complete assigned engineering work, primarily involving the existing distribution system and facilities, to research and design potential additions and/or modifications to the distribution system utilizing budgeted and allocated resources in an effective, efficient, and professional manner, and in compliance with applicable Codes and Company policies and goals. Key deliverables will include design, job drawings, permit sketches with information for permit applications, cost estimates for projects, and create and process work authorization packages.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Generate and review construction/station drawings for the capital replacement and betterment projects. Place and incorporate responses to PA 1 Call\xe2\x80\x90Act 121 design requests into drawings. Draft sketches and plans necessary for state and local permits.
  • Research internal records via MapFrame, Design Manager, service line database, etc. for generating construction/station drawings. Conduct field visits to capture locations of existing above grade features.
  • Communicate and internally coordinate workload priorities with engineers and supervisor regarding the construction/station drawings.
  • Review roadway construction plans from state, municipalities, contractors and/or developers for conflicts and/or needed system maintenance to be done in coordination with proposed construction activities. Process PA 1 Call\xe2\x80\x90Act 121 design requests, as required.
  • Represent the Company at meetings with 3rd party consultants to convey expectations and verify adherence to the construction drawing standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology and/or working knowledge and experience with CAD in gas pipeline installation and maintenance.
  • A general knowledge of, or aptitude in learning, the properties of natural gas as they relate to pressure and flow and of the principles which apply to gas facility construction and maintenance.
  • Aptitude in learning codes and standards such as all applicable Federal (DOT), State (PUC and PennDOT), local codes and Company policies and procedures, such as those found in the Gas Operations Manual (GOM).
  • Aptitude in learning new computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, and Company systems, such as Design Manager, Mapframe, DOJM, Fieldglass, PowerPlan, SAP and ArcGIS.
  • Familiarity with office workflow procedures and understanding of available resources such as maps and records, maintenance reports and timesheets and contractor bills.
  • Using vision and creative thinking to determine the best short-term and long-term manner to implement system upgrades.
  • Physically visiting field locations to determine obstacles to design and resolve any conflicts that arise during construction.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
