The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Construction, has a full-time vacancy for an Engineering Technician I - III.
SUMMARY:
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I:
To perform semi-professional engineering audit procedures on project records and documents related to engineering projects for the Department's Construction Bureau, working under the direct supervision of higher-level technicians and engineers.
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II:
To perform semi-professional technical engineering audit procedures required to analyze and determine final contract quantities related to engineering projects for the Department's Construction Bureau.
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN III:
To perform and assist in monitoring semi-professional technical engineering procedures required to analyze and determine final quantities related to engineering projects for the Department's Construction Bureau.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS
: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I -
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.
Experience: Two years of experience as an Engineering Aide, one year of which shall have been at a level equivalent to Engineering Aide II.
OR
Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering, landscape, architecture, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies, agronomy, geology, soil science or earth science.
Experience: No experience required.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license
Other Requirements: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.
Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 1+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
:
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I:
Calculates volumes by means of engineering methods for determination of quantities of materials.
Verifies measurements, computations and documentation supplied by Contract Administrators and field support staff.
Tallies daily invoices of materials submitted and determines correct totals for final quantity payments.
Utilizes computer software such as BlueBeam and MS Excel to review and revise project records as necessary, during routine audit procedures.
Review and resolve inconsistencies in documentation or Record Book entries with higher level technician or engineer.
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II:
Verifies measurements, computations and documentation supplied by Contract Administrators and field support staff.
Interprets and verifies areas and volumes of earthwork and embankment provided by the Contract Administrators and field support staff using computer software like BlueBeam and MS Excel.
Develops or monitors the development of final as-built plans on paper and/or electronically for future reference by interested parties.
Supervises and trains lower-level technicians in the use of engineering methods and audit procedures.
Attend meetings to help resolve any questions regarding final contract quantities.
Shares responsibility with Construction Services, including but not limited to answering office phones, updating databased, and assisting walk-ins with questions from the field.
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN III:
Verifies and analyzes the proper use of mathematical computations performed by Contract Administrators and field support staff.
Calculates and/or analyzes the accuracy of final volumes of earthwork quantities by use of engineering methods using computer software like BlueBeam and MS Excel.
Compares project Record Book entries with design quantities using the Department's construction Management System (iPD Web) to eliminate errors and double payments.
Analyzes project field notebooks for accurate measurements and calculations to ensure compliance with standard specifications, methods of measurement, and basis of payment.
Develops or monitors the development of final as-built plans on paper and/or electronically for future reference by interested parties.
Supervises and trains lower-level technicians in the use of engineering methods, audit procedures and iPD Web.
Attend meetings to help resolve any questions regarding final contract quantities.
Shares responsibilities within Construction Services including, but not limited to answering office phones, updating databases and assisting walk-ins with questions from the field.
