Position Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated, very hands-on, and skilled engineering manager to join our dynamic team. This person will manage 6 direct reports, including manufacturing engineering, tool room, facilities & maintenance, and will spend 50% - 80% of their time in our production areas. This position will support the development and execution of the engineering and operation's strategic roadmap and continue to strengthen our culture of continuous improvement and customer first focus.
This individual will provide on-going technical leadership support to day-to-day manufacturing operations, be responsible for the manufacturing and facilities equipment reliability , and work with our technicians troubleshooting and maintaining our equipment. This role will collaborate with our operations manager, quality manager, production equipment engineer, process engineers, and technicians to integrate new technologies, implement new automation, complete continuous improvement projects, and expand our SCADA system to enhance our process monitoring. This will allow us to continue to scale our onsite manufacturing operations to meet future business needs and our aggressive growth plans. Travel will be limited to project-related activities.
Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing technical team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee engineering support for manufacturing operations, facilities, equipment, and automation systems to ensure compliance with quality standards and exceed customer expectations.
  • Drive equipment reliability through the development of key performance metrics, predictive maintenance programs, and advanced monitoring/control systems.
  • Manage and enhance the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including preventive maintenance strategies and spare parts planning in collaboration with suppliers and maintenance teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams-including scheduling, operations, and process engineering-to resolve equipment issues, optimize cycle times, and increase production capacity.
  • Lead and execute continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment throughput, reduce downtime, and drive manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support the design and implementation of control strategies, quick-changeover solutions, and hardware/software modifications for improved process performance.
  • Research and evaluate emerging equipment and automation technologies; contribute to long-term technology roadmaps and capital planning efforts.
  • Manage engineering budgets, lead capital projects, perform ROI analyses, and drive cost-reduction initiatives to meet financial and operational targets.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards while providing technical training and mentorship across operations and engineering teams.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: 10-15 years of manufacturing experience, including a minimum of 3+ years in the medical device industry (or other highly regulated sectors such as aerospace or defense), and at least 7 years in technical leadership or people management roles.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding and application of GMPs, ISO 13485, and Quality Management Systems (QMS), including hands-on experience with equipment qualification protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ).
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience with complex electro-mechanical systems; automation and PLC control/programming experience is highly desirable.
  • Process Development: Demonstrated success in developing, scaling, and integrating new systems, processes, and manufacturing cells in dynamic production environments.
  • Problem Solving & Risk Management: Strong analytical skills with the ability to proactively identify risks, navigate ambiguity, and provide clear direction in complex, fast-paced situations.
  • Strategic Judgment: Skilled at balancing internal capabilities with external expertise to drive project success and support business goals.
  • Leadership & Communication: Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and change management skills, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Lean & Six Sigma: Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies; certifications are a plus.
  • Compliance & Safety: Knowledge of OSHA regulations and a strong commitment to EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) policies and practices.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to manage capital projects, prioritize tasks, and deliver results aligned with business and financial objectives.
Education & Certifications:
  • Minimum Bachelor Science degree in engineering. Advanced degree is a plus.
