Description
Under the supervision of various Engineering staff, provides support to assure accurate, efficient operation of the
department while also gaining engineering experience.
Examples of Duties

• Perform field inspections and submit reports regarding the progress of various projects.
• Assist in road and sidewalk construction projects, including painting limits and placing pavement markings.
• Assist in evaluating the condition of the road and sidewalk network.
• Assist with permitting and design review.
• Assist with maintaining asset management database.
• Perform field inspections to check on the storm sewer system throughout the city.
• Perform traffic counts to obtain speed, volume, and class data on vehicles traveling on city roads.
• Attend progress meetings and stay informed of project details.
• Review storm sewer videos and advise supervisor of problems.
• Perform field survey for various City projects.
• Prepare public communications, such as emails, letters, postcards and other correspondence.
• Assist with traffic control, including putting out message boards, barrels, cones and signing work zones for no parking.

Typical Qualifications

• The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of high school.
• One or more years of experience in an engineering or civil engineering program and/or interest in the civil engineering field.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with the general public in situations requiring tact and patience.
• Proficient computer skills necessary to utilize word processing, spreadsheet database, and other applications.
• Ability to drive between Transportation Services and various projects around the City.

Supplemental Information
WORKING CONDITIONS: * Normal office environment with little, if any, discomfort due to heat, dust, noise and the like.

• The job will also require work to be done outside much of the time, between inspections, evaluations, and project work.
