IS4S is seeking qualified candidates for part-time engineering internships at our Auburn, AL location. Person or persons filling this role will work with other junior and mid-level engineers in cross-functional teams on a variety of PNT (positioning, navigation, and timing), RF, command and control, and other related projects. Interns are expected to work at least 10 hours per week at the IS4S facilities with some flexibility during exam weeks.
Candidate must be a US citizen and eligible for a DoD clearance. Applicants must clearly state citizenship and any active clearance in a cover letter or on the resume.
Typical activities and responsibilities would include:
Assessing performance of navigation and RF technologies using laboratory and simulation equipment
Connecting and using computers, sensors, and RF equipment
Supporting data collection and testing activities
Develop and execute test plans in the laboratory
Assist other engineers in one or many of the following:
o Design custom electronic boards, circuit card assemblies, and wiring harnesses
o Develop and test software for sensor drivers and other data acquisition equipment
o Develop, test, and integrate navigation and timing software on a variety of platforms
o Support RF and antenna electronic design and testing
o Perform mechanical design for custom electronic enclosures
Basic Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in one of the following fields:
o Electrical / Computer / Wireless Engineering
o Mechanical Engineering
o Aerospace Engineering
o Software Engineering / Computer Science
Basic proficiency (or exposure to) a modern programming language (e.g., C/C++, Java, MATLAB, Python, etc.)
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and perform tasks with minimal direction
High MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word proficiency
Desired Experience and Skills:
Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments, especially command-line tools and scripting
Embedded system development with small Unix devices or microcontrollers
Experience interfacing stepper motors and developing gimballed systems
Signal processing knowledge and experience appropriate for the applicant's year in school
Software defined radios and/or experience with FPGA development using VHDL
Familiarity with communication protocols, such as SPI, I2C, AXI, JESD
Understanding of 6-DoF dynamics and navigation/guidance processes
Skill in statistical data analysis and correlation techniques for large data sets
* Experience using relevant tools and software for schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation (e.g., Altium, Cadence, SPICE).
