The Department Manager oversees a team of engineering design professionals, interns, and co-op staff to ensure all deliverables are completed on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards. Responsibilities include administrative oversight, enforcing safety and quality compliance, managing workforce needs, and implementing ongoing training programs. This role requires familiarity with project controls.
What You'll Do:
Collaborate with leadership on departmental goals and priorities.
Manage staffing and resource allocation for projects and tasks.
Lead, mentor, and train team members to achieve performance objectives.
Develop and implement training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.
Conduct regular performance reviews using defined KPIs, including:
On-time completion of tasks and projects
Budget adherence
Quality of deliverables
Team collaboration and communication effectiveness
Compliance with safety and company standards
Employee development and training participation
Drive process improvements and operational efficiency.
Promote safety, quality, and integrity within the department.
Evaluate schedules and manpower requirements; adjust workloads as needed.
Review and approve departmental deliverables and reports.
Ensure activities meet company and client requirements.
Issue timely updates for scope or schedule changes.
Plan and organize teamwork and training programs.
Track and monitor performance, budget, schedule, and quality metrics.
Support procurement and administrative processes as needed.
Participate in training and professional development planning.
What You'll Bring:
Education: Bachelor of Science or Graduate degree
Experience: Minimum of 10 years' experience in supervising and managing a large team of office personnel, including responsibility for staffing, scheduling, performance evaluations, training programs, and ensuring operational efficiency. Prior engineering experience is not a requirement for this position.
Proven ability to lead diverse teams, maintain high productivity standards, and foster a collaborative work environment while meeting organizational goals and deadlines.
