Engineering Associate

Job Description

The Engineering Associate supports the Engineering team by assisting with basic 2D and 3D CAD work and maintaining accurate drawing documentation for Merrell Bros. equipment and systems (e.g., biosolids processing equipment, conveyors, piping systems, platforms, and layouts). This entry-level role focuses on learning drafting standards, CAD best practices, and engineering documentation workflows.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Entry-Level)

Assist with

creating and updating basic 3D models and 2D drawings

using CAD tools (

SolidWorks preferred

), based on sketches, markups, or direction from Engineering. Make

simple drawing revisions

(dimensions, notes, title blocks, layers, views) and prepare drawings for review. Support the creation of

layouts, assemblies, and fabrication drawing packages

by updating existing files and using standard templates. Assist with

BOMs, cut lists, and manufacturing packages

by compiling information from existing models/drawings and engineer direction. Participate in

internal design reviews

as a learner; apply redlines and feedback to update drawings/models. Help maintain

drawing organization, file naming, and revision control

, and support Engineering Change Notice (ECN) documentation as assigned. Provide drawing exports (PDF/DWG and other required formats) to support Engineering, Manufacturing, and other internal teams. Collaborate with Engineering and shop personnel to understand manufacturing needs and improve drawing clarity (may include

occasional shop walk-throughs

).

Education



Preferably enrolled in or plans to enroll in an

Associate's or Bachelor's

program in Mechanical Engineering Technology, CAD/Design Technology, or a related field (or equivalent technical coursework).

Experience / Skills



Basic working knowledge of

CAD drafting/modeling concepts

(SolidWorks exposure preferred). Ability to follow instructions and produce neat, accurate work with strong attention to detail. Willingness to learn about mechanical equipment, drawing standards, and manufacturing requirements.

Physical Demands

Extended computer work creating and reviewing drawings/models. Ability to visually inspect detailed drawings and models. Occasional movement through shop/warehouse areas as needed.

Work Environment

* Office-based engineering environment with shifting priorities and collaboration across teams; periodic exposure to shop conditions (noise, dust, temperature changes) where PPE may be required.
