POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL is currently seeking an Environmental Engineer II to support our Phoenix, AZ office. The person hired for this position can work remotely if they live in AZ, CO, NV, UT, OR, WA, CA, or NM.

This position will support multi-year U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers environmental projects primarily in the Phoenix, Arizona area and western U.S.Projects involve investigation and remediation of emerging contaminant (PFAS) impacted groundwater and soil.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU\'LL BE DOING

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring field operations are conducted in a safe manner in accordance with project specific Site Safety and Health Plans / Health and Safety Plans.
  • Providing remedial system operations and maintenance services.
  • Performing / conducting field subcontractor oversight inclusive of drilling, waste transportation and disposal, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Managing / leading field teams for collection of water, soil, and soil vapor samples utilizing various sampling techniques.
  • Preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).
  • Potential 25-50% travel within the U.S. (predominantly in western U.S.) as needed to support projects.
Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with environmental field investigation experience.
  • Prior experience contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, and work plans.
  • Coordination of field subcontractors for environmental investigation and/or remediation activities.
  • Collection of water, soil, and soil vapor samples utilizing various sampling techniques.
  • The above-described experience on a CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, or RCRA project/site.
  • Possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment and be able to work in various levels of PPE including a respirator, if required.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT (preferred, not required)
  • Experience working on U.S. federal contracts.
  • PFAS sampling and remediation experience.
  • Vapor intrusion field sampling and mitigation experience a plus.
  • Experience with remedial system design.
  • Preparation of engineering technical specifications.
  • Experience with western U.S. lithology and boring/well depths.
  • Preferred 4 years of field related and/or report writing experience.
  • EIT Certification (or capability to test and pass FE exam within one year) or AZ Registered PE (or capability to obtain registration within one year), depending on experience.
Required Education
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in an engineering field related to Environmental Studies such as: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Education
  • M.S. degree in engineer field related to Environmental Studies or related field.
