New Britain EMS is currently seeking qualified part-time or per diem EMT-B candidates.


New Britain Emergency Medical Services is looking for part-time EMT-B candidates who are interested in joining our team. Candidates must be currently certified as an EMT in the State of Connecticut.


PT/Per Diem Candidates: This is a hourly non-exempt part time position. NBEMS offers a unique, high-performance EMS system that responds to 911 calls only. Ambulances are deployed from a central base. We offer competitive pay rates and a retirement savings plan(401k with company contribution). Basic Function:



Administer pre-hospital emergency care and other forms of related health care, education and medical transportation. Administer basic life support. Responsible for clinical oversight of all emergency and non-emergency incidents and choreography of co-responders at any specific incident in the absence of an EMS line officer or licensed paramedic.



Experience:



Minimum of one (1) year of related experience preferred.

Education:



High school diploma; and post-secondary vocational training. Associates in Emergency Medical Services or an allied health profession preferred.

Certifications/Licenses:



Current Connecticut certification as an EMT National Registry certification preferred. Current AHA BCLS Healthcare Provider. Valid driver's license. ICS 100; 200; 700 and 800 Certification desirable.

Desire to excel as a paramedic working in a busy urban EMS system. Ability to be self-motivated and accountable. Ability to perform multiple tasks in a timely manner. Ability to foster the concept of team work in order to accomplish goals. Excellent customer service skills.

Function as a positive role model committed to achieving and maintaining outstanding customer relations with the community. Support and promote the philosophies of NBEMSI. Maintain an up to date working knowledge of NBEMSI clinical treatment guidelines, standard operating guidelines, policies and procedures as well as an appreciation of the operations of the allied public safety agencies and the culture of the community. Maintain unparalleled standards for health, safety and ethical behavior

Clinical Practice:



Interact on a professional level with patients, families, hospital staff, general public and other public safety agencies, providing exemplary care and customer service at all times. Protect and maintain the confidentiality of all information related to patient care activities and information related to internal EMS operations. Maintain up to date skills proficiency, working knowledge of clinical practice, and new developments in the field including EMS policies, clinical practice guidelines and standard operating guidelines. Maintain all medical command requirements for medical practice authorization from THOCC-NBC. Operate all EMS assigned vehicles under control at all times in accordance with all federal, state and local laws governing vehicle operations. Comply with approved agency policy regarding Emergency Vehicle Operations.

Readiness:



Maintain provider certifications and licenses as stipulated by EMS for medical practice. Licenses/certifications must always be kept in a "Current Status" based upon the expiration date listed on the certification/license. Assist in the operational readiness of all assigned vehicles and equipment including stock and inventory. Maintain all EMS vehicles and equipment consistent with EMS standards and guidelines including appropriate decontamination and infection control standards. Assist in the appropriate use, care and maintenance of the physical plant, furnishings and fixtures. Maintain an up to date knowledge of the service area. Be capable of utilizing preprinted and or map-based directions for the purpose of locating sites within the service area. Be aware of any changes in roadways or points of access.

Occasionally: Smelling, lifting no more than 200 lbs,, pushing, pulling, typing (30wpm), climbing, balancing, carrying no more than 70 lbs., kneeling, stooping, bending, leaning, upper and lower body flexibility, running distances, driving ambulance, car, truck, multiple physical activities performed at same time ( driving, talking and seeing). Frequently: Hearing/listening, clear speech, touching, walking inside and outside, sitting. Constantly: Seeing

Working Environment:



Occasionally: Confined areas, extreme hot and cold, wet and/or humid conditions noise, vibration, mechanical and electrical equipment, moving objects, high places, fumes/odors/mists, dirt and dust, gasses, toxic conditions, human excrement, blood, urine, mucous, body tissue. Frequently: Works alone, with and around others, face-to-face and verbal contact, inside and outside temperature changes.

Constantly: Shift work, extended work day/shift.

Mental Requirements:



Occasionally: Clerical, memorization and higher math skills. Frequently: Simple and complex reading and writing, simple math skills, computer skills.

OSHA Category:



OSHA Category -1 Position routinely involves exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues airborne pathogens and other work related hazards.

Reporting Relationship:



* This position has no direct reports and reports to an assigned shift officer [Lieutenant or Captain]
